Only had a few but I'd take that Nova's launch position in the far lane over the Camaro's any day.

That Camaro was a local car here, true COPO. Sold at estate auction 15-20yrs ago sans original 427 for $50K. It's do***ented in the SuperCar Registry. I guarantee you'd have liked it's launch better if that pic had been taken just a scoosh later.....!:D

I dug my 68 Camaro out of the corner yesterday to start cleaning it up for the Portland Roadster Show, gonna be part of the Columbia River Camaro Club display.

Bought a pile of parts this week and there is a 2nd gen Firebird posi rear end with factory disc brakes, any idea of what it's worth.
Note: location of the brake calipers, one mounted front and one rear  don't look correct

yeah those trans am rear brakes look odd, but that is factory, but its a 8.5 rear 10 bolt, pretty much the best of the 10s to have. I would check the gear ratio. I think those factory disc brake rears are bringing near 1300-1500 complete depending on if the posi is still good and what ratio it is.

  21. Another Camaro story to add to the bunch. In December 1969 I purchased a Camaro from Carol Cone, the Cone brothers had started their agencie(s) back when. My family was a minor owner, very minor owner, in Orange County International Raceway OCIR back at the start. But that is another story. So in my Senior year in high school, I sold off some Model A parts, part saved money and a bank loan from my parents, Carol sold me his ( wifes ) 69 Camaro that had 9,800 miles on it. This car was a second down "consolation prize" purchase because two other deals fell through. That's another story. Bill Thomas Racing, a local shop to us, also people whom we knew and one of Bills mechanics, Warren Williams, a next door neighbor and with some pressure from Carol, convinced Bill to build the engine some and some ch***is into it. So in January 1970, while I was still a Senior in HS, the Camaro wound up in Bill's shop. Bill was shutting his business for a number of reasons so this was his shop wind up. There was a lot of stuff laying about from time past and this wound up on the Camaro. It was back together in time for the latter part of my spring semester so I could drive it to HS and my GF and I took it to my HS graduation. In 1975 the engine was lunched street racing and I put it into my parents barn here in Orange County. Still there with about 39,000 miles on it. So that is my bucket list project. Actually went to the DMV here last week to get the paperwork back current. They laughed. I parket it in 1975 and it still sets there, flat tires. So I speculate this was the last Camaro Bill Thomas ever built up.

NO, not for sale and I have had lots of offers. Maybe I will get burried in it.

    Dan in SoCal.

  23. That's funny. When I was working at OCIR that is the late 1960's and I was a dumb teenager, one of my jobs was crowd control at the starting line in front of the timing tower. So we spent literally hours at the line watching and listening to all the runs. The only people whom took more air concussion was the two guys running the Tree at the starting line. I know well there is a fast lane and a slow lane though most people would say they are the same. Naaa, there is always a fast lane and it was the far one away from the timing tower. Always a faster launch. The one closest to the timing tower was a slower launch but did pick up at the far end. Whow knows why.

Here is pictures of my Camaro Clubs display from this last weekend's Portland Roadster Show. We had a theme of a vintage old OK used car lot. Had made up some large "window stickers" as show signs for everyone and then slapped those silly numbers and slogans on the windshield. Then a few of us stuck the original prices of our cars on as well, if you knew what it was.

It was all in good fun until the show office got a call from an angry person because they could not actually find any info on our "dealership" as they wanted to buy my 68 as they didnt realize that it was just a theme for the show. Quite a few ended up falling for it. So Sunday morning, I took one of my chalk markers I use for drag racing and stuck sold on the windshield and that made most of the comments go away. Club ended up winning best display so that was a plus, lol.

Better walkaround of the whole setup. Had some members bring their non Camaro's as well.

Cool idea! A lot of us can remember those as real prices! I'll give ya $3200 OTD for that '68, if ya throw a set of fresh tires on the back & fill up the tank! :D

  28. I paid $2,900 for my USED Camaro in December 1969. That one was built in April 1969 at the Van Nuys plant.
