I'm glad you addressed the wheel size... I was thinking that was one area that could use attention... and the mild chop rocks... sometimes less is more.

I'm not sure how I feel about the wheels on the latest version of the Chrysler... I'm on the fence.... maybe I'm showing my age and too tied to retro styling... That body is looking like a 40's movie star though... I like it.

 

I was looking at those Granadas myself, thinking they have some potential. Last Ford 3w coupe?

 

Yea.... I guess that's the appeal both the Granada and LeBaron had for me. I wanted to paint the roof and trunk lid on the LeBaron in a Dove Grey with a Charcoal metallic front.... maybe some dark grey pinstriping between the two colors to accentuate the back...

 

Well, wheels are easy to swap, if the discs aren't your thing. It's all just an idea. Do it your way.
I did spend a long time trying to keep some sort of chrome front bumper, but in the end it's a cleaner look without it.
I think the new style wheel arches would work on all four wheels too, though I like the covered rears, as it's more in keeping with the bustle back/razor edge style.
I was actually aiming to see how it would look if they still made them today. You can only go so far with that, since modern cars have so much plastic stuff, like side skirts and spoilers and generally just that they're a different shape, but I like exploring the whole retro futurist/Syd Meade style thing.
I'm really not a fan of people trying to force 1950s kustom design onto later model (60s/70s/80s) cars. It never seems to end well.

OK, I suppose this is OT so here goes. This is an Austin A90 car which was supposed to be a sort of "halo car" for Austin in the US but missed its target because, although it was supposed to be inspired by a Farina-bodied Alfa Romeo, it did not look anything like it - not surprising because of its high frame and short wheelbase. Can anyone do a section/Channel job on it as well as extend the hood so it becomes somewhat easier to look at? I also posted the Afa I mentioned for reference. Thanks in advance for anyone barve or foolish enough to attempt this

 

Apart from the roof chop/coupe, I added roll pans, slimmed the bumpers, raised the side chrome trims, altered the way the skirts fit and added a rocker panel, as the doors go all the way down originally, which looks odd. No section necessary I think. The stance on these things originally is so so bad!

 

Thanks James - superb. If only... It could have been slotted, price-wise, under Jaguar's XK120 and would have been a show stopper. With the engine in the same tune as the Austin-Healey 100M (110 hp) and an overdrive box it would have been capable of long-distance high-speed cruising on the US' highways. Kinda' like a British Hudson Hornet perhaps. But I don't think Austin understood the US market at the time - that came later when they joind forces with Donald Healey.

 

It was a wasted opportunity. Also the same old thing of someone insisting on having rear seat/headroom, resulting in that goofy roofline. It absolutely needed to be a really good looking car.

 

That, plus they had a big luxury barge in the A125 which could have been priced below RR/Bentley but above Jaguar and did nothing with it. Again they could have had someone like Farina or Ghia restyle it or tell Vesters & Neirinck to sort out that excessive front overhang on their tourer.

 

Adding: take the unwanted Pininfarina Plymouth protoype Mopar did not want and adpt it. More modern-looking than RR's Siver Wraith / Bentley's Mk VI but still conservative enough to offer an alternative to say a Packard (for those who wanted a British luxury car).

 

It seems to me that there's a whole niche of cars that aren't built any more - coupes and convertibles that were just meant to look good and were never really performance oriented. Nowadays it seems that 'looks good' has to also equate with 'is fast'.

 

That's a hell of a profile. Never seen that.

 

Agree on the niche you mentioned. You seem to have high perfomance coupes and nothing lower on the scale (well maybe VW's T-Roc Cabrio, Toyota's GR86 or (I suppose) MG's Cyberster).

The Plymouth was a part of a compe***ion between Pininfarina and Ghia - Ghia won because Mr. Keller of Chrysler Corp. had doubts about Pininfarina's quality and... Liked his cars with tall roofs so he could drive them with his hat on (which explains the styling of all Mopars until Vigil Exner came on the scene). Pretty certain PF would have gladly adapted the design to fit the A125 frame, not very diffferent from what Plymouth had at the time. But for this you needed people with vision at Austin

Can someone make the scoop metal flake silver but keep the shark teeth and eyeball ?
I managed to burn some paint off the damn thing, so it's either a touch up or change the color.
