Man, people really need to stop worrying about how much something is worth and just have “fun with cars “

I built this Henry 32 several years ago and never considered chopping it.

My gut feeling is that back in the day there were way, way, more un-chopped as opposed to chopped. The chopped cars were out of the ordinary so they got their pictures taken more often and that's what we see.
We have to remember it took time and skill to chop a top. Most of the cars back in the day were their owners only car and as such was needed for work or school or whatever and couldn't be off the road for weeks. I like them both ways but like a modest chop more than a radical one.

IMG_4666.jpeg IMG_3590.png My Bud’s 34 had a super nice chop , but it was terrible to see out of and get in and out of for me . I have 4 fused in my neck , it doesn’t do as God designed it to do anymore . No chop on my 3W as long as I’m the care taker . I think they are pretty well proportioned as Edsel’s mind made them .

Maybe guys are wearing top hats again...:p:p

More likely two factors at play.
    1) hot rodders want to be different, so if they perceive ‘most’ are chopped they may be inclined to ‘not chop’ theirs, and
    2) the time/effort/money and moreso skill, may just not be there, so unchopped it stays.

I did the stock height thing once because the car was too original to alter (like really stock with its banger et al). Had to sell it because if I kept it, it was going to get a haircut.

*** Stock on the outside, with upgraded drivetrain, suspension, interior, etc…just equals resto-mod and that’s not my thing. Neither is this trend to spend a ton of money on an engine build to go slower (flatheads are cool, but…).

I’m just in my 60’s now, so maybe as I get older and wiser I’ll change my tune :rolleyes:.
And maybe, just maybe, I’ll start wearing a top hat. :p:p.

I have to bend my head to get into my full size Dodge truck. I’m not going to let a few inches keep my 32 coupe project from being cool.

That coupe is perfect, the stance, the chop, the channel, nothing out of place. That needs to be sitting in my garage, it even shows the example of hemi power at its finest.

  19. Despite the modern popular option they weren't all chopped back then either!

Having put well over 100K on my 48 since I chopped it and using it as my daily driver more often than not I am going to have to say that a lot of older guys who are finally building a 32 closed car have stiff backs and sore necks and no longer want to lean forward at every light to see the stop lights. The chopped rigs were fun when you were younger but not as comfortable as one that isn' chopped.

Then we get into Time and expense. A decent chop in a top level shop costs $$$$ and adds a lot of time to the build.

Personally I liked them chopped but not hammered down to where they look squashed. Remembering that one of the best chops I have seen on a 32 was 1-1/2 inchs. It just took the too tall look out and parked between a stock height car and a serious chopped car it had a just right look that unless you paid attention didn't look chopped.

As I was reading all these comments, I was thinking the same damn thing Mark
Hotrods are meant to be modified and have fun with. Too many look at these cars as investments and not the big boy toys that they are. Just build a bad*** hotrod and don't worry about how many originals are left and that there are too many chopped this or that. Let the next generation deal with the s****s. We don't live forever. There is nothing too sacred to cut up in mind. I've proved it. Some guys are way too soft. 117330400_4136629153079151_3017482571157268978_o.jpg

They look great both ways, just depends on the style of car you're after. I have one chopped, one not and like them both for different reasons.

That looks like it's being used as an override bar for the bumper to keep it from going under if it struck or got struck by another car.
