Bought this Lyon hubcap at the Selma swap meet today, nicer than I deserve but it does not sit flush against the rim. Before I go manhandling it to make it fit does anyone know the proper way to do it?

What rim are you putting this on? That looks more like the rim is a tiny bit undersized which isn't allowing the cap to fully seat, more than it looks like the cap is bent. Some modern steel wheels don't seem to take full wheel covers very well, maybe a rim thickness thing, not sure.

    Stock 16” rim.
I was able to get the cap to property fit. Trying to straighten the cap by pushing and pulling on it did nothing but raise my anxiety. Where the cap didn’t sit flush you could see on the rim where the tabs weren’t making contact cause there was no paint scrubbed off. Slightly bending the tabs out so they made contact with the rim ****ed the cap in and fixed the problem.
Probably common knowledge for most but I didn’t know.
    Now to find a mate.
