Ever notice that the folks that ask questions about your item never win the auction? I am selling my engine on ebay now and I am getting questions like , "Is the block casting rough like an armadillo's *** or smooth like a mule's lip?" What casting number is under the #4 intake valve just south of the north pole short turn radius? I answer like a good ebay shnook should but Geez, "Want it or not?" I have hundreds of positive feedbacks and not even half a negative! I even have a frickin teardown option on the motor before purchase! I had to vent thanks for listening. I am going to build the baddest model A four banger this side of the missisippi if it sells.

Laugh out Loud!!!! You hit the nail on the head. Shakespeare couldn't have said it better!

  4. It works both ways. I ask sellers a lot of questions. That's probably why I'm rarely burned.... :). But there are many sellers that put sketchy info in their ads in order to be deceptive or because they don't know squat about what they are selling.

I also buy quite a few items when I'm satisfied that I know what I'm getting.

Jonnny I am not talking about legit buyers. I am talking about the ebay version of picture collectors.

last item I had on ebay had over 300 views, was bid up from the $10 I paid for it and offered it for, and sold for over $400....no questions at all....maybe because I gave a complete description with lots of detailed pictures.

I ask questions on stuff I might buy, if I can't figure it out from the description and pics....which happens way too often

The main thing that pisses me off about ebay is the idiots who ask if you will ship it to them in Germany, or some other far off land, when I clearly state every time that I ship to the lower 48 USA ONLY!! Read the description fool!!

I never have any questions on big dollar items...The questions I get are for the **** I'm practically giving away! I got a ****load of Model T stuff and thats where my issues are. Those ****ing restoring old farts are nuts. I get crazy on the descriptions and pics. I'll actually research a part while I'm listing to get the exact years, appplications, etc. the thing is correct for. Sometimes it takes over an hour to list a part that I start at $4.99. I get 20 questions and after 7 days 1 or 2 bids. I figured out how to deal with the guys who ask too many questions or keep sending diff ones at diff times...I tell their cheap *** to bid or I'll end the auction and throw the ****ing thing away. They usually bid within a day. I sell for around 2 months straight and take a month off, I'd go nuts if I didn't. The whole process from taking the pictures to shipping the packages is bad enough...

It's just part of selling on eBay. Having your opinion on rust pitting vs. a buyers can differ greatly. For some reason my digital photos make rust pits look deeper than they actuially are. Always makes for a good feedback when the part turns out to be better than the winner thought it would be. NO PROBLEMS selling World Wide either, parts is parts money is money.:D

on things like engine blocks, heads, cranks and other critical parts...you almost HAVE to ask questions unless all of the specifics are listed...if I'm looking for a pair of 905 casting number heads, I want to make damned sure that those are in fact 905's, and not some other version that I have no use for...but when it comes down to silly questions that have already been answered in your description, then it's downright frustrating...

I really don't get the Ebay rants....if you don't like Ebay, don't use it. It's that simple.

It also gripes me to hear that "Ebay is driving up the cost of our hobby". WTF! NO, it is the people buying stuff that drives up the price, not Ebay! Ebay is just a means for people to make transactions.

People who complain about people on ebay need to get out of the house, if even for just a few minutes.

It's always nice to get the emails about "how much is it to ship to...." when you have already provided a shipping calculator in your ad. I hat when you have a bunch of people watching your item and nobody bids on it. What's up with that??

I always call the ebay seller and talk with the seller about the item and questions I might have. Gives good comfort level and reveals much.

I really get tired of the ebay *****ers here . I do my business there and have for years and it all hot rod stuff. not rusted **** but good parts and cars. If a hamb guy asks questions will you not answer him , knowing he most likely has no money and wants it for free anyway.. Ebay is simply a good medium for me to market my items and to buy from all over the country what I need or want. in some parts of the usa like here in oklahoma we dont have the vast amounts of old iron especially like you guys in the east. and wehn we buy from here if it is north or east of here chances are it a rusted pc of **** so we like to ask those sort of questions because so many wont disclose that in the ad. Like Squirell said if you use a comlete description and a lot of pictures you dont need to ask too much. but then that is work isnt it.......simple dont use it if you dont agree with it!!

Amazing how the written word varies from the spoken word. I never intended this thread to get nasty . I was only talking about window shoppers that never bid anyway. Broke *** tirekickers **** pure and simple.
Yes my phone number is in the auction and the # of the shop that built it!
I love ebay , I bought and sold plenty there and I think the hobby is better because of it. I'll keep my rants to my self from now on because I feel I created a hostile environment.

Your rant is well justified, I have a car on EBAY now, and I have received some of the dumbest requests for things that really dont pertain to the selling of the car. like on guy that sent me at least 10 emails requesting my email address so he could send me pics of his 54,000 mile car. i asked him not to send me emails anymore as this is not a picture swapping site, but an auction site, he emailed back and told me i was an ***hole.. Sometimes you get a good buyer and and have no issues.

The question and answer portion of eBay is beneficial to all eBay bidders, not just the ones that ask the questions, because everyone gets to see the answers if you post them in the auction. Lots of times, I've read descriptions on eBay that left questions unanswered, just to find out that it's already been asked and answered in the Q&A section. Very helpful.

And, asking a question shouldn't mean a mandatory bid. So a guy asks for a casting date, and it's not the one he wants, so he doesn't bid. I dont think there's any harm in that.

Exactly. I don't feel bad at all about asking a bunch of questions and not bidding. As one examle I was looking at a circle burner that hadn't been raced since '94 as a roller to put under my '37 Chevy. I asked about 10 questions but the answer to the first....had the car sat outside for 12 years? (it had and tubing rots from within) made my mind up for me. I always have 10-25 items on Watch, some for my own future auction reference, others to see if I can steal 'em...:D

I have no clue as to why why so many folks, not just here, rank on eBay. If you think it ****s so badly, just don't use it.

I look at EBay as a swap meet that I don't have to leave home for....I watch a lot of stuff, and figure out how much the max I'll pay right from the git go and bid that amount. sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. I have yet to sell a part on EBay. But I do manage to sell a few parts on the HAMB.
