At that last sound bite, NOW it sounds good! I like the gold stripe across the hood, roof, and deck lid, the gold scoop sets it all off. The rear wheels fit and look much better. I could see the whole car being 2" lower, but keeping the same rake as an improvement. Now the sides need to be broken up with a gold stripe, or lettering, or a bit of both. You have transformed it into a much cooler ride then it started out as. Good job!
I hear you guys. The stance right now is a little more '70s rake than what I have in mind. One of the previous owners added a reinforced, adjustable mount for the front of the leaf springs. The car is currently at the highest of three positions. I just want to try another position and see if I like it better. If I don't, it's easy to change it back. Cars were a little lower back there during the era I'm going for.
Love this car. Thanks for the play by play; your changes are on target. I had an ex CHP 65 Polara 413 that ran pretty good some 50 years ago. My buddy's dad was a CHP officer and bought it at auction, then sold it to me. My buddy was a Mopar guy through and through. He has a back yard full of Mopar muscle including an early Fury with a 440 and 727.
Man, your car is looking exponentially better with each mod you do. You've come a long way from where it was with some relatively simple changes. I'm with you on lowering it to get the stance the cars of the time had.
Improvements look great. Ive got a 62 Belvedere and a 63 Fury... shameless plug, my Fury is for sale outside of Waco, TX. It was a 361 ci car.
Very cool. Shameless plug, my Norwegian ancestors settled in Cranfills Gap in the 1850s and helped to build the old Rock Church.
I've been watching this thread with great interest. The fastest car I ever had was the 1964 Sport Fury with a pretty strong GTX 440. Steel wheels on back and 5-spokes on front. With the headers open sounded a lot like yours (iirc). Man I wish I still had it but that was nearly 60 years ago (1969ish) and who knows where it is now.
Neat man! Im from CA, moved here about 4 yrs ago. My wifes family have been in Cranfills Gap since the beginning as well... lutfisk is actually pretty good if you drown it in ****er haha. If you find yourself in the area, drop a message!
Thank you, guys. I’ve done a few more things to it this week. The fenders still had holes for the original emblems. So I got a pair and put them on. I really hated that this car didn’t have a p***enger seat. I looked for new and used seats, but never found anything that looked right - until some old “tow truck” seats showed up on Marketplace. I got the seats and some seat brackets at Summit after work and went to town. I think these are going to work out okay. The driving position is much improved over the ****eyed, sloped downhill, and mounted too-far forward (with three bolts) seat that was in it before. I wanted to see how the car would look with the rear leaf springs in the lowest of the three mounting hole positions. I pulled the rear suspension apart and realized someone had put all the suspension parts together bone dry. Worse yet, the CalTrac was missing the steel sleeve that cages the front spring eye bolt on the p***enger side. I’d heard a clunk or two, I guess that was the front of the spring banging around. You can see the sleeve on one side but not the other. Calvert sent me another sleeve this week and I put it all back together. Then we took it for a spin to the local bbq spot. And it proceeded to rain. This is the longest I’ve driven it, and it did great. I’ll get better pictures when the weather clears. I think the stance is much better…
Looks really good. Seats look right at home in there. Rear height much better. Now back those front torsion bars off a couple rounds and imo you’ll have her sittin just right. Great job !!
I've loved steel rear wheels and 5 spoke fronts since I was a teenager in the 60's and it was THE thing. At least in my neck of the woods.
@Gotgas you are a smart cookie so this is mainly for the people following the thread. If you find something like a kit missing an important part (suspension!), it's time to put eyes on everything. Even without a glaring issue like this, it's good practice.
And on a '64 Plymouth Savoy, not a single "Savoy" nameplate was ever installed. Though it still looks a bit naked without a gold pentastar emblem on the back of the right fender.
I’m GM to the bone but I would LOVE to have a 62-65 B-body Chrysler done up like yours. It would have to sound like yours too!! That car is *****en man I love it.
I think it looks like **** and you should sell it to me for a loss so I don’t get taken like you did. Seriously though I think it looks great. The red and gold great combo!
Wow, thank you for the compliments. It's pretty far from perfect! It's an old race car and it shows. But it really is starting to have a great vibe and personality. I know you guys understand.
