I have a spot that has been leaded and needs some work. I have never used lead so I was wondering what would happen if I put Body filler over the top of the lead? do I need to clean the lead with something before the bondo? Thanks, Mel
Bondo actually doesnt adhere to lead real well. You would be better off putting a coat of primer over it first let dry well and then apply your bondo.
No no no no no.... ...what you need is Metal-2-Metal. Sticks to everything - let's call it a replacement for lead - or lead 2.0 Try it. It works. http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=37
BTW, I saw your ride at the Pile-Up. I seem to remember you nearly had to sell it - man I hope not, that car is far too ******* cool. ...is that the car in question?
Mel. Epoxy is the way to do it. body filler sticks to it well. Clean,Strip and grind area to be worked with a 36 grit disk then apply epoxy and then filler Nick
Always a good idea to wear a mask when grinding lead or anything else for that mater. You only get one set of lungs.
This collision repair guy that I am friends with turned me onto Metal-2-Metal. I have seen him use it to fill some pretty wild areas. This stuff is terrific. It has metal in it - so it shrinks/expands better with the metal. You can go pretty deep with it and it feathers out flawlessly. I give it the same Broman stamp of approval that I have given to Por15 and ZeroRust....and any other product that I may have used, but can't remember right now. Anywho - ya should be able to get some at you local auto-paint supplier.
