anyone know if chevy inline 4 cylinder intake manifolds interchange? I want to have a carb'd 4 cylinder and have an offer to take a good running 2.5lt iron duke (from an 88 s10) for free, but I don't want the TPI manifold. do any of the older carb intakes interchange if so how far back can I go (in years) to search for one???? any help would be great!
i think you need an intake from a 1982 to 1984 f body camaro or firebird 2.5 or from a 1982 to 1985 s10 2.5 to run a carb on your motor. gm racing sold 4 barrel intakes for the iron duke engine to.
My Duke, from a '79 Monza, had a progressive 2-bbl carb. I may still have that manifold. Here's one I made to mount a side-draft Weber carburetor.
Don't forget fieros had them also. So did many amc cars and jeeps. It was kinda a *****. As long as its a 2.5L, some had hi-po heads, only I don't know the difference.
johnny is no longer with us. he gave out plans for the manifold to many people ....if you ask in the iron duke social group there might be someone with a copy still.....
Prior to 1978 or there abouts the iron duke had an L head design like the chevy sixes. After that they all had a crossflow head and as best as I can tell used the same intake gasket. So I would say and car with a 2.5 prior to about 84 and after 78 should have a carb type intake. Monzas, some Jeep CJ's, mail trucks, Skyhawks, Sunbird, Camaros? Clifford Research might still have some aftermarket stuff and well a Offenhauser. These engines were used a lot in sprint car stuff and there is still stuff out there from that arena too. I put an iron duke in a MG midget once. Dang thing was fast. Power to weight ratio about like a 427 Cobra.
Wish I had known that years ago. I've made 3 with Holly base patterns and one for the Holly baby spreadbore. What I've often wondered is - Do any of the water ports/p***ages need to be used? Such as running a hose from that rear port in the head to the pump? I blocked off all of mine. Wondering if that changes the way the engine cools?
I have a 2.5L in my Model A Coupe. The engine is from an 88 or '89 so it had TPI. I don't know anything about injections so I made an adapter to put a Rochester 2gc on the stock intake. I also had an intake and carburetor from an older 2.5. It was A spreadbore type carburetor, I believe it might be the equivalent of 1/2 of a Rochester quadrajet. I just didn't like the intake manifold as much. So I used the TPI manifold and fabricated my own aluminum adapter out of 3/4" aluminum plate. Lynn
I have a manifold from a 78 Monza engine, not a crossflow head, you can have it for the price of shipping.
hi. my name is mike. I think I have what you want. does your head have the intake and exhaust. on the same side. where are you located. Im in ny in Dutchess county.12570. here are a few photos. I M me on this site and I can give you more info. if you're interested. it's a gm performance manifold. I also have a dist. and aluminum head. thanks mike
I remember when Pontiac started making iron dukes and all the performance goodies for them. Somewhere I still have the factory Pontiac iron duke performance/race manual with recipes and part numbers for reaching different horsepower stages. I think the top formula which was bored and stroked come in at over 300 horse. Wanted to build one back then for something lite like a stripped sunbird but never did. They even offered a kit that layed the motor over like a slant 6 Mopar to help fit under hoods and lower center of gravity.... ...
Here is a complete Pontiac iron duke kit on ebay. Love to have just the intake to hang on the wall, can't imagine the amount of conversations that would bring up alone ! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1162721662...kxwptnQgilh2IayvYc3MGyn2w=|tkp:Bk9SR8zSwpirZw
