So, for the past 13 years, my car club has put on a 100 mile reliability run in Springfield, MO the Saturday before Easter. With this year being the 100th anniversary of Route 66, I decided to run the mother road on my trip up and slow down and play tourist a bit. Anyway, figured I might do***ent the trip with some commentary for anyone considering a Route 66 trip anytime soon. Driving my mostly original flathead powered 51 Ford that I have been do***enting here…

Oh, and I normally have kids along on this trip. But, they are all grown and none of them were able to make it this time. So, I am traveling solo which is good for slowing down and enjoying the ride. :D

I’ll try to add lots more pics once I get there or maybe after the weekend. Phone isn’t cooperating too well.

Well, I have to admit that I gave up on 66 and ended up on 44 not long after Tulsa. I did probably get 50 or 60 pics before I decided I better get down the road. Oh, and my oldest son caught up with me in Catoosa by the blue whale. So, we grabbed lunch and are about an hour away. He did p*** me since his vette struggles to go as slow as I need to…

More pics later and I might as well cover the event in this thread too.

Yep, we are there. Friday evening stuffing shirts in bags…and, almost no cell coverage. So, still no pics to speak of.

Thanks for the time to take the slow road.
We find it hard to be there. You show us the impact of time on an area that has
not kept pace with the rest of our world.
    Your Ford is nifty one.

I've done rt66 from east of Springfield to New Mexico line. It took 3 days to go thru Oklahoma.
Best week of my life. Lots to see . Even got off 66 to see a prisoner of war camp and space museum.
We saw bug ranch, blue whale, round barn, largest soda bottle and the biggest gas pump.
Plus so much more. We camped on the Oklahoma Texas line at a red rock canyon park.
I want to start in Chicago and stop at Springfield next time.
I live so close yet haven't done it. Power tour is coming thru in June. I will try to catch that.

Ran Rt66 from Joplin to Edmunds twice on the way to Jeff's reliability runs. Think I enjoyed the second trip more than the first. Just think about it Jeff....Just you and your machine humming along to the same tune, in sync and becoming one in mind and soul... Say What? :D:p

I wonder what all the radial tire guys think about you driving the hell out of this car with bias ply tires?

I honestly had more comments about it still being 6V and points than the bias plys…lol

You must be talking about John Hargrove? Has Herbie the bug coming out of the wall of the building?

You are correct about the craftsmanship! I have been in it before and even remember when it was falling down back when I was in high school before they restored it. It’s a very cool structure!

They were closed but I have been in there several times. And, I know the two guys that own it too. Great collection in there! I would highly recommend!

Did you stay at cheesy little roadside hotels with a diner? I dream of this ****!

Oh, and a girl that looks like Christie Brinkley in the pool...Ferrari optional.
