Unfortunately, the only picture I can find is under a tarp in the back of the shop, and right now it's in a storage unit. But it is towards the top of the list of projects to get done, so more photos soon, I hope.
I worked in auto parts from 17 until I was 42, (except the two years I worked for Mr. Nixon 71-73) loved the job in the parts business but not the best paying and little security. P***ed the test and spent the last 20 years as a city mail carrier, the job ****ed and the chicken **** rules kicked our *** worse all the time, but the pay was good and I retired in 2013 and never looked back. This retirement business is the best damn job I ever had!!!
Been over 11 years for me and the very last thing I have ever been is bored, too busy yes, bored no. Life is what you make it !
Congrats!! I retired 15+ years ago and NEVER have enough hours in the day. Have fun!!! You've earned it!
This sounds a little like me. Spent time as a bodyman - didn't pay well. Factory maintenance for several years, then Rural Mail Carrier (yes, it ****s) to get good benefits & retire @ 60. I don't regret a second of getting out early. @bigdog Welcome to the wonderful world of retirement. The to-do list is long but spending time in the shop building hot rods & kustoms almost makes the last 40+ years of **** worth it.
After being retired for quite a while now, one thing I have discovered- learn to say no! Seems folks think you help them do things because "you have plenty of time". Congrats
*** doing nothing the best part of retirement. You will find the projects, cars, tools, etc. will wait-eventually so will you.
Congrats, I hope you enjoy it. I was forced to retire at 62 and ended up disabled, would rather be working.
If you're anything like many guys you'll quickly discover you have less time retired than you had when you worked full time! And much of that time wont be scheduled each day! I get calls occasionally from friends and family asking for a hand, or wanting me to go with them somewhere, and seems like I rarely have a set plan that works out the day I planned it. I retired Thanksgiving weekend of 2010 and have loved every minute of it since. Friday after Thanksgiving I was in the shop building my retirement hotrod, and when it was done I remodeled my wife's kitchen and bathroom. Then started another car build, plus a few more since, and a half dozen for other friends. Just go, go, go, until about 5 years ago when I told everybody I was done with their cars, and only doing mine. Still having fun every day.
There's only one problem with being retired......time flies even faster! I've been retired for 12 years now,the only thing I miss is my company vehicle and a couple of the guys that I worked with.I went back for my company's annual B.B.Q.the year after leaving and I kinda already felt like a bit of an outsider.
Congratulations. I was forced to retire early after a series of events beyond my control. This was almost 8 years ago. Didn’t seem like it at the time but it was truly a blessing in disguise. Enjoy!
I’m glad this thread popped up. Mandatory retirement is at age 65 for airline pilots. That is 6 years in the future for me. I was getting mildly nervous about it, but now I’m feeling better about it. I plan on enjoying the journey, and the changes that are coming.
The only problem with being retired is you never get a day off! As members of this forum, we are lucky. We all share an interesting hobby. Having a hobby and somewhere to tinker is key to keeping yourself happy. Gotta keep the old brain cells going. Congrats. Mart.
1000 congratulations. I always look at people that say they would get bored if they retired as kind of crazy, Life is so short, spending your time doing what you want to do is what it is about, whether its in the garage, in a motorhome with your significant other or fishing on a mountain stream or any other interest that people tend to do when they retire I am all for it.
I retired just over two years ago. Now work part time for "mad money". People warned me about getting bored. WTFE! I'm busier than ever! Retirement is like living a wonderful dream. Best of luck to you! Enjoy!
I'm done in September been carpenter since '82 .and got great nieces and 3 year old great nephew who is a car guy already in training lmao
I retired on Ground Hog day, so I could remember. 2-2-2020 Took me a year to learn how sleep 8hrs again. Its great to have fun going to shows and working with cl***ic cars.
