My dad was trying to cheange a tire on his 69 chevy C50 rollback. He didn't get the socket completely on one lug nut and rounded it off. I was wondering what you suggestion on how to get this thing off. I need to use the truck soon!

He used a 3/4" racket and 12pt socket. Socket is 1-1/8". Once he had the ractchet on, he put a jack stand under the racket and then added a 7ft piece of pipe. I can not find a 6pt 1-1/8" so far. I've looked at Sears/Craftsman, TSC, and snap-on website.

Just weld another nut on top of the rounded off nut.

Forgot about that. My dad is working out of state. he comes in every so often. He thinks he found a place that has a impact 6 pt. Might try that first. Then head to second lug nut trick next. I'm wondering if that welded nut can handle all that torque and stress?

You should be able to find a 1 1/8 inch 6 point socket. I have one in those cheap China 3/4 drive sets. Go to one of those exclusive econoomy tool stores like Harbor Freight. Impact socket will be 6 point.

But like previously posted, weld on another nut and stick the socket on that one. If there is anything left of the old nut, heat the nut up with a torch and then try to get it off. The heat will help to get it released.

Actualy I'm looking for the socket. My dad's working 10-14 hrs a day. I've never see Snap or Mac around town. Its not too big of a town.

I went here under sockets. And didn't see anything.

I finally went to rachet accessotries and found that they do sell individual sockets. I guess I should of looked under everything no matter what the ***le said. :D .

Today I took a 1/2" drive socket and gun to the nut after heating it with a torch. It didn't even budge.

here's a little tip as far as the heat part goes, heat the STUD not the nut, it will break the rust bond better.

Easiest thing to do might be to cut the nut off.

Use a small, clean tip on the cutting torch -- heat a point of the nut, then cut one flat off the nut.

I usually try to cut about half the thickness of the nut off and what's left usually yields to hammer/chisel or pipe wrench.

    good luck!

Get out a big hammer and pound a 1" 12 pt socket onto it. Be sure it's a Craftsman or similar with an unconditional lifetime gurentee because you'll either A) break the socket, or B)never be able to get the lug nut out of it.

A 1/2 inch impact is not going to do much to a 1 1/8" nut. You will have better luck with a breaker bar and pipe until something breaks. Neal

I agree. I learned the hard way on my chevy truck the torch will save you many broken tools.

6 point socket, weld a nut on it or just use the hot wrench
