My dad operated a Standard station in the fifties. He p***ed in '97 and my mom p***ed in '22. While cleaning out her house I found this calendar from my birth year. Although termite eaten, I found another on ebay, and the local Fedex office was able to scan the two and put together a replica of the original. I thought you guys might think it was kinda cool. I was a whopping 7 pounds 6 oz.
Pretty cool Charles Dye illustrated calander. Charles Dye was a quite famous illustrator specializing in Western art and Norman Rockwell-ish Americana.
LOL. My mom had 2 sets of canisters on the kitchen counter...the "rooster" ones were her "special baking canisters" and were off limits to everyone.
That takes me back to the 1950’s, I remember mom using Calumet Baking Soda and McCormick Vanilla Extract as shown on that table. It’s strange how an old calendar can trigger memories from our youth.
As a kid I couldn't understand why Vanila extract tasted so awful and why baking chocolate, which looked like a Hershey bar, was so bitter.
Cool calendar! Hang that up in a place of prominence. Reminds me of simpler times but back then following the instructions of a cooking show on TV is pretty much the same as us getting tips from a U Tube video today. I came across one from our family business and an old one from Ford. I've been making simple frames with gl*** for them and hanging them in the garage.
