Hot Rods What engine does this intake fit?

Helping a friend identify. Notice the funny angle to meet the head. Also appears to be for a cross flow head. No p***age way for exhaust to go between intake runners. What is it?

 

The mounting angle suggests it's a Dodge, slant 6

 

Can't think of another engine with angled ports so I agree Chrysler slant 6.

 

The port arrangement and bolt pattern in the picture is definitely not for a Slant 6…

I can say unequivocally that it's not for a small block Chevy!

 

The port arrangement is similar to the 258 AMC straight 6, but the angle and the bolt locations are wrong.

The fact that there are webs between the ports, and the angle, suggests it's for a cross flow head.

The fact that it's for 3 one barrels indicates that it's OLD.

Not enough angle for a slant 6. Also the exhaust is on the other side of the cylinder head. The manifold in the background looks to be a an old MOPAR product by the flange? Painted like is was on an old truck; I like the freeze plugs under the carb flanges.

 

Similar but different bolt pattern

 

I’m thinking some kind of flathead 6, most “modern” inline 6’s clamp the intake and exhaust to the head using the same hardware for both.

 

I missed on port shape. Z round, AMC rectangle. Also missed on the webbing Squirrel mentions.

 

My guess it's for a flathead with some sort of aftermarket head on it, maybe a 'F' head conversion. Or did anyone make a F head six?

 

flathead inline engines always have the intake and exhaust ports next to each other, so we know it's not for a flathead, since there's no room for the exhaust manifold, or even for exhaust ports.

 

Very interesting mystery manifold. The underside of the center runner looks like it had a casting tag on it, I'd like to see a closeup of the underside of that center runner. I can make it out in the second pic.

Also, are the round spots directly below (what we are ***uming are) carb flanges open? Like, could you stick your finger through there?

If they're open, that makes me think they would connect to another mirror image intake with pipes, like some kind of wild V12 or something.

I have no idea, but I do want to know this one.

 

Jeep did but who the heck would go to the trouble of making a manifold for one of those?

 

maybe there was secret hop-up plans in place for jeeps if ww2 lasted longer..

 

Didn't Willys make am "F" Head?

 

They did, but the only versions I've seen were four bangers.

That port configuration [Ex In In Ex In Ex Ex In Ex In In Ex] Is the same as Ford Falcon 170 / 200 six
And the angle of the port face is where they milled off the log manifold for a Hotrod triple carb conversion

Ford 250 six, has a bolt on manifold.

 

Jeep had a six cylinder 161 F head engine. I have one in my Willys AeroEagle.

 

That is a possibility
The Aussie 250 2v has a bolt on intake ,the 250 1v has a log intake

 

it's pretty close, but I doubt that's what the intake was for. Although, if you can find any do***entation for it...I'll easily be convinced.

 

Is there a number cast here.

I doubt if it is for the Aussie Falcon 2v head because the bolt pattern is all out of phase and the ports are round . The Aussie head was from an era when triple 1v downdraught carbs wouldn't be used [they'd use Webers]

I've seen triple carb conversions on speedway cars [back in my dad's era] where the log was milled off.
Usually flanges were brazed onto them.

144 and 170 heads had oval ports with the intake milled off, but some 200's had square ports [below]


Anything is possible with Racer / Hotrod innovation back when they had to build equipment instead of buying it.

This looks like a different manifold. The bottom of the red painted manifold is closed in the third picture:

The carb mounts look simpler, too.

 

Yes, but it was at one point a common practice to cut off and mill the intake off.

Hillborn even made fuel injection for the Falcon 6 and they were raced in midgets.
