..Just checking to see if there's fellow HAMBers in the tri state area of Ohio,KY. or W. Virginia and if so are there any REAL Hot Rod happenings, cruise nites, drag racing etc...It's possible that I may move to the the Ironton, Ohio area..I'm still a long way from knowing that for sure but if I did relocate in that area, it would be nice to know that I may have the oppurtunity to share time with fellow HAMBers.......Thanks for any feedback on this!!!
Flathead Youngin' is located in Portsmouth, OH about 30 miles west of Ironton on US 52. I'm about 25 miles west of him. JohnB lives in KY but don't remember his town; I think it's south of Ashland. Ashland, KY has a lot of cars right across the river from Ironton. Don't know much in Ironton cept the Tar factory (PEEUUUUUU) I think it used to belong to Allied Signal.
Some of the Cincy guys are starting a club to help each other work on their cars. There's not a whole lot going on down here in central KY. John B lives in Olive Hill I think, and Brooding Swede lives in Morehead. We should have a cookout sometime for the KY/Southern OH HAMBers.
Cool...Thanks for the info...I was sota guessing that there may be more action across the river..I was recently told that Ironton don't have that nasty smell anymore..If I'd make the move I'd be about 15 min. north of Ironton..
IM in Dayton. Me and a few guys here started a club also to help each other out with build information, tools, labor and parts swapping.
Yeah, I'm in Olive Hill. About 30 or so miles west of Ashland on I-64. There's a group of guys in the Ashland area that area always building something. If you move into the area, I'll introduce you to them. Wheelersburg, OH ( a few miles from Ironton on Rt. 52) has a good monthly cruise at the McDonalds there.
I'm in WV - lots of cruize-ins in the Charleston/Huntington area. However, most are the type where our culture dictates the car owner parks, sets up his little camp (sometimes complete w/ cheezy trophies), and sits and sits and sits.... I usually don't do 'em...boring and you'll be the topic of conversation if you get what I mean.... We do have a pretty nice 1/8 mile drag strip on Rt 35 between Winfield and Pt. Pleasant. So, to answer your question re REAL hotrodding...you can read between my lines... just my .02
the drifters in columbus are having their second annual hot rod hula hop this august. gonna ROCK. tons of bands, tiki carvers, burlesque, friday night dinner at the tropical bistro, i'm excited already. there's a post about it on here. also, there's some doings up at dragway 42 this weekend (near cleveland). i can't make it, gotta get some work done, but it oughta be good too...
yep bluegrass ( i think thats what they call it....) ....also have clay city down off of the bluegrass parkway ......seems like there was also a track in ashland....might have been called river city or something....also there are probably a couple dirt tracks in that area as well .....brandon in northern ky
Kanawha Valley Raceway is the closest to the Ironton Area. http://www.kanrace.com/ River Cities Raceway is long gone.
That's pff the Mountain Parkway, just up the road from me in Powell County. I left it off because I wouldn't go there and it's like 20 minutes away They do have some decent races there, but mostly it's the same crowd every weekend in their bracket racing Novas and Camaros.
Scioto Trails dragway is close to Portsmouth. 1/8th mile track. I went to a car show there a couple of years ago. Flathead Youngin' should know where it is.
forgot about kanawha valley ......supposed to be a pretty nice track ....they have one of the ihra points meets there......as for clay city .....come on....it can't be that bad.......haha one things for sure......you will definently hook up there.......brandon
We've just started a club here in Cincinnati for builders of traditional rods. There is a fairly large Cruise-in on Friday nights in Milford, just outside of Cincinnati. There are two shows a year in Springfield, just east of Dayton. The Pumpkin run is a good sized show and swap in the fall East of Cincinnti. Goodguys Columbus is worth the drive, as are some events in Indianapolis.
there are still a few gear heads here in Newport Ky.right across the river from Cincy.we have Edge Water and Thorn Hill are open for 1/4 mile blasts
I'm about 25 minutes from Ironton. Ironton used to have a great antique/hot rod show but I think it has been watered down with billet stuff- as most has.. The McDonald's show that everyone is talking about is a pretty darn good cruise-in. Usually around 400 or so cars.....a mixture of muscle and street rods. There are some pretty good traditional hot rods that show up too.....not as many as I'd like but you know.... There is the KD 1/8 mile in South Webster (not too far from Ironton) but they bracket race and it's the same deal- novas and camaros, Neons that win because they're "consistent" There are a few HAMBr's in the area- or should I say region- but they are still spread out too far to really get together much. Blown49 and JohnB are about the only two I see on occasion..usually at the McD's show. Ashland probably has a larger hot rodding crowd (more $$ there) and is VERY close to you......same for Huntington. I'd love to have some other traditional hot rodders 'round these parts.....I get lonely sometimes. I snuggle if that is a plus..... Seriously, Ironton wouldn't be too bad a place to live. There are several fellas from out on 141 (right out of Ironton) that are good fellas to know. It would probably be quiet (depending on where you live) and is still near things to do..... Keep in touch!!
...Just checking out this post and was a lil' suprised to see more feedback..I have not moved but it is a possibilty in the future to the Pine Grove area..I'll be visting there Saturday--Monday after Thanksgiving..I may have some free time on Monday depending on what time I start back to the Dayton area.......Thanks...deedster
