Projects Bought a 51 Ford on Purpose

There are a lot more parts you need (if you want to use the full capabilities of the unit), but most of them are (or were) available on the aftermarket. I had to find an original relay, but the lockout cable, kickdown switch, wiring harness, and even some cable brackets were available. Here's a tip : some of the parts are not available through Ford parts dealers, but I was able to find them through the Studebaker guys. And then there are a lot of ways to "jury-rig" it to get the main benefit. That being said, a properly working complete original setup is a joy to have.

 

Or you can get a list together and go shopping in my garage, I have tons of overdrive parts NOS and rebuilt. When you come by this Tuesday you’ll see….

 

When I was ac***ulating parts, the hardest thing to find was a good working relay (without spending an arm and a leg).

 

Once you get it all sorted out you won't believe how much it helps if it's anything like the O.D. rear end.

 

I think it should be 3.73.

 

I’ve got the 3:73 in mine and it’s great without the overdrive as long as you stay around 65 or so. But with the overdrive engaged I think it would be way better and could cruise around 80 or so and be happy. I do have a few of the 4:11 chunks laying around here but I don’t think it’s worth to swap it out.

 

Oh and I should note that I have an overdrive transmission in the car now but not using the bells and whistles so that might have a bearing on the mph I can drive without it being engaged

Definitely. I need to send my speedometer off to @e1956v to get fixed, but am not pulling anything apart while I need it to get to work everyday.

It’s Fiesta Red! Lol… Maybe citrus is better than pink though? Lol It looks forgotten right now after sitting out under the lean too for a few months. It’s in the shop now but looks kinda like a barn find.

I’m going out in the garage here in a few minutes to try and sort out this stinking alternator issue project!!
Think I finally got it figured out!!!!

Well, got to hang out with Billy @lostn51 for a couple hours yesterday and check out his cars and parts stash. Also got to meet his wife, son and dogs. Pretty sure the bulldog has a new best friend. Anyway, good to meet Billy in person finally. I parked my semi at a truck stop and he came to pick me up so I could go to his house. I even ended up with an original screw for my air cleaner so I won’t have to use a screwdriver every time I have to fill up the carburetor bowl until I get around to putting the electric fuel pump on. Also, pretty sure he has everything I need to get the OD working once I get to that.

 

I really enjoyed having you drop by and hanging out with us yesterday it’s a shame that you couldn’t stay longer. Hopefully next time I won’t be hurting so bad thanks to my sciatica and we can take the woodie out and hit a few garages/shops and check out the projects they have going on.

Just made it back to Oklahoma from Virginia. Since I had to pull the air cleaner off to fill up the bowl on the carburetor after it sat at work all week, figured I might as well put on my new part from @lostn51. No more need for a screwdriver at least for that.

 

I may not be much on technological advancements, but moving the master cylinder from under the floorboard to the firewall sure makes putting brake fluid in easier when you figure out the master cylinder is dry in the parking lot at work...

Seems I have a leak I need to find.

Technically it is Ditch Witch’s semi but I am the main driver. Only one other guy drives it.

And it’s a bad to the bone semi and trailer and the piece of equipment in there is knarly!!! Nothing beats hearing a blown big block with zoomies in an inclosed trailer and I meant to get picture of the rascal but I dropped the ball

As far as I know, Semi-trucks have air brakes and no master cylinders!

Crazy weather night in Oklahoma. I was just driving home knowing there was a tornado watch. My daughter just called to tell me about some of the destruction that happened not too far north.

Is it the angle of the video, or do you need to adjust the aim of your headlights? Looks like a dark spot in front of the driver, and extra light on the p***enger side breakdown lane. Might juat be the angle of the camera?
