A lot of people may not be aware of this little tidbit about the TLB 55 Chevy camera car. The view from the interior shows what appear to be Holley carbs on a Tunnel Ram like the #1 car, In actuality there is one mounted on a plate attached to the single carb and cowl.
Pretty sure the AG and TLB '55 weren't tube ch***is. But more likely just tube stubbed firewall forward for the 4 link front suspension and axle setup.
A few years ago on my trip back to Oregon from the LA Roadster’s Show I spent the night in Petaluma and drove around town in my avatar before cruising out to Paradise Road (aka Frates Road) to do a burn out and a good run on the three carbs. Setting up my phone for a video a log truck blew its horn at me and I goofed the video, but I did do the burn out and raced down the road on some random morning. Good stuff.
I read a report that Milner is having health problems, photo showed him in hospital having breathing troubles hope he is still alive

One of my favorite movies but should have been based in Porterville. Everyone in the Southern Valley from Bakersfield to Visalia cruised Main in Porterville on summer weekend evenings.
They used to actually race on Frates road you would trun back around on Old adobe . I ran my Chevelle out there a few times and to the south of Petaluma BLV jsut out of town by the river near the old Mc Hhails sand and gravel was a frontage road below Highway 101 were we would go race when the cruise was going on . ( that is all a marina and business now but then it was were the sand got unloaded of the barges off the Petaluma river . it was behing a truck stop as I recall . I worked at McPhials for a bit ) I know I cruised cars there until at least about 84 . There were no houses out there in the early 80,s and honestly at the time I had no idea it was were the race was filmed . I the cops got really bad in Petaluma , BS tickets and **** like impeading traffic following a cop holding up traffic , bald tires that were a week old and burn out sitting still with a broken shift linkage . and that was after 4th street in Santa Rosa got closed for cruising that was the real hot spot vs Petaluma . I think the big rocking chair and a few other props from the movie are still on Petaluma BLVD . It used to be a fun time in the very early 80's we came in form over the hill from Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park If you knew the fast cars your would see them pair up at a cruze near the sout end of town ( I think there was a bowling alley ) and then there would be a procession of those who knew what was going on out of town to Fretis road or we knew the area more for Old adobe road. that is the intersection to the east after the run .
My cousin was born in 1946 and grew up in Turlock. He is 2 years younger than George Lucas but saw the exact scenes that AG portrays. He said that the Petaluma setting was a perfect facsimile for how downtown Modesto was back in the early 60's. They cruised a set of one way streets forming a square circle. He said that summer weekend nights they would drive up from Turlock to Modesto to cruise and the scene was hopping. Cars everywhere kids from all the high schools. Turlock high, Modesto high and Dewey (or Downey - can't remember one is the actual school the other is the name used in the movie.) And they all listened to the same radio station so the sound would bounce off the buildings exactly as portrayed. Pretty magical when a movie maker captures something so well that it resonates across the country.

Two lane blacktop is a worthwhile watch even if you hate it. I bought it on DVD and the extras are pretty intriguing. The interview of JT and how much he hated making the movie and admitting he's never seen it. What a trip. JT did say that his brother was a gearhead so he had some interest in the subject, just hated how he was treated and directed.
Maybe his driving was so bad he scared em off. worked out good for Opie…..I guess. He should have chased after the waitress.
