Customs I should have stayed in bed

Moving cars around to hang sheet metal on the shop walls this morning. I knew better, but being a typical, impatient old guy, I decided to push out the 55 by myself. We live on a hill and it jumped the wheel chock, pushed me down the hill, leaving skid marks from my feet for about 40’ in the gravel and the. It happened.

It hit my son-in -laws fencing trailer. I can’t get ahead. Anyone have a deck lid for a 55 Ford they wanna part with?

I’m ok. My pride is hurt…. and the bumper that was laying on the deck lid, slid off and broke the tail light out of my son in laws new truck. So there’s $300 down the drain.

 

Are 55 and 56 the same? If they are that would help your search. They do look the same.

 

Not sure. Maybe someone with a Hollanders can chime in.

 

Some days are diamonds and some days are stones. Don't beat yourself up too much, ALL of us senior citizens have similar stories of brain fart decisions, Myself, some before I was a senior citizen. LOL The Big positive, no ER visit

 

****s, but… You’re OK, that dent isn’t the end of the world and will give you another project. You could’ve been badly injured.

.....had a guy that worked for me that used to say...'once you get snake bit the snakes just keep working you over'...
hopefully you are done for the year now....no more snakes to bite you....

 

Thankfully you weren’t hurt. Maybe your pride and wallet took a hit along with the trunk lid but they will recover.
I’m sure we all have stories of stuff gone wrong…

You were gonna weld up the lock and trim holes anyway, right? So now you just need to practice your straightening skills a bit first.

Back in the eighties and nineties I owned a bodyshop, I had a customer who had a sixteen year old daughter who wrecked her car three times in about eight months. She paid twice what the car was worth in paying those three bills, she didn’t have collision insurance because it was too expensive, now the first time she wrecked her car was a bad day and by the third I can’t imagine…
It’s just a dent and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could work 90-95 percent of it out.

 

Damn, thats a ******. The Vette ran away on me 2 years ago. I spent a week in hospital. I’ve got some big truck chocks now.

That happened to me once. At 17, my girlfriend leaned on my ‘60 Pontiac and sent it over the 2x4 chocks and down the driveway. I went after it but couldn’t do anything. It turned itself just enough to hit the neighbor's Buick in the front. Dinged up the Buick bumper and grille. Unfortunately it was the bad neighbor and he was a total **** about it. Didn’t matter, I was already the rotten kid on the block.
Glad you weren’t hurt, I was kinda laughing visualizing the 40’ skid marks from your shoes. Gonna need a new pair of Keds?

That ****s, but as others have said, you weren't hurt (other than your pride) so that's good.

When I lived in Winnipeg, I had a buddy that would regularly pop over to my shop to see what I was up to. He worked as a flatrate bodyman. He'd see a dent like that and couldn't help himself. He'd bark, get me a 2x4 and bring a hammer! In about 15-20 minutes that dent would be about 90-95% worked out...he couldn't help it, he had to. You need to find a friend like that.

 

I know you don’t want to hear this but things could be a lot worse. Be thankful you weren’t hurt or worse. Cars can be fixed!

 

To add a bit of perspective on this Thursday afternoon I got to take a ambulance ride to a hospital and have emergency surgery. Surgeon told me if I had waited one more hour I might not have made it.
I would have rather had the dent.

 

Stuff happens. I'm sure we all have some things that have happened while working on cars. You did not get hurt and the damage does not look too bad.

 

I'd shove a chunk of 2x6 in between the skin and inner structure, then twist in a big eye bolt through the trunk lock hole and pull with a comealong. I bet that'll come out.

 

Look up NealinCA’s thread about straightening fenders with a wood post in the gr***. I bet you could do similar and have it fixed in a couple hours.
