when I dropped the 56 at the cottage last fall I rented a u-haul car trailer . Pushing it off the trailer at the cottage didn’t want to bug the neighbour , well the wheel was turned and the front wheels missed the ramp and the ****er dropped to the ground !

I was ready to cry !! Not a lick of damage !

in a span of 2 weeks set myself on fire twice and got electrocuted a****st some other stupidity .i was ready to run away and become a monk !

it can always be worse !

 

Stuff happens, and it did for you this time. Someone was watching over you, all that got hurt was your pride and a bit of metal.
Now you have the choice of letting it bother you for a long time, or get over it, fix it, and move on with life.

If that trunk lid is not very rusty, it may be time to learn how to, or brush up on your metal work skills (I'd much rather fix a dent then fix rust).

Depends on the model. The Fairlanes had different holes both years, but the cheaper models were more or less the same, the '56 might have two more smaller holes. The '55 Fairlane had the most holes by far, avoid that one.

 

Roothawg, this might make you feel better, Maybe ? I Heard this story at a car show, one of our car group's brother in-law story. Picture this, Man stopped to pee, had been drinking some, late night and being old he couldn't wait, all us old guys understand this, we've all done this, Ford 250 PU, jumps out, put in reverse instead of park, runs behind truck to Pee and it idles over him over, hurt pretty bad, could not move or call, phone in truck, laid there for some time. A Sheriff cruising found him. In the hospital 2/3 weeks, he now has a permanent limp and got a ticket for public intoxication. Yesterday I talked with Randy, fellow racer, carnut and friends since high school. Him and his Honey were in Florida for 6 weeks in her motor coach RV, a big beautiful unit towing her Lincoln SUV behind it. Driving home last Monday, they blow a RF tire, went off the road, fortunately flat land, it stopped in a group of trees. The RV totaled, Suv totaled. No injuries, a gift from God IMO. They spent 3 days, insurance people, getting it towed, packing up a rented Uhaul truck to put their stuff in and are on their way home now. AS I said Some days are Diamonds, some days are Stones. Your Opps, very minor, consider yourself a Lucky man.

Had a similar adventure a couple of years ago, when I lived in the mountains..
I had sold my unfinished early Bronco and was going to load it on my trailer and deliver it.
It wasn’t running, with the driveshaft out, so I started rolling it out the shop.
The trailer wasn’t in position, but hooked up and just sitting in the driveway about 50 feet from the shop.

The Bronco was on the four post lift inside the shop door and as I pushed it off the lift’s ramps it picked up enough momentum to jump over and push aside the 4x6 stops I had in place. Two of them that were longer than the Bronco was wide. What could go wrong? Well, the safety strap that I had hooked up somehow came unhooked from the Bronco!

All I could do at first was to hang on to the bumper, but the slope on the driveway was letting it pick up speed.
I had to let go, and it started to turn toward the trailer, which was hooked to my Tahoe, 50 feet away.

The Bronco was raised enough that the left front tire hit the low hanging dovetail on the trailer and it bounced to a stop!!
Thank God that the Tahoe was in park and the brake set!
If it had been a couple of feet more to the right, it would have missed the trailer, and gone over the 30 foor embankment next to the driveway, and rolled off into the woods on its roof!

No damage to neither the Bronco nor the trailer! I had a vision of having to call the buyer and telling him that I would be refunding his deposit, because his Bronco was totaled!

 

Since you were not injured it really isn't so bad. Just think if you had gotten pinned between the car and the trailer. Who knows how long you would be in the hospital. If you survived.
I put a spin on oil filter adapter on my Olds and started it up today. The picture shows how well that went. Sprayed a good part of the underside, just walked away and let it drip.

 

Glad you’re OK, could’ve gone badly. We’ve all done things similar to what you had happen.

You had an accident; you are okay and that is what matters. I have made having an accident (or doing something incredibly stupid) an annual event.

 

If the only skid marks you got were from your shoes, I'd say you were at least a bit lucky!

My late Father-in-Law didn't have a lot of patients with folks and their stupid, avoidable accidents.
He would just shake his head and say "what a clobber-***".

He said that to me MANY times.

 

Just glad you did not get hurt. Tomorrow will be better.

I am old and still do stupid stuff. Only difference is I do it much slower!
