Technical It was a “professionally restored” car

55 Chevy at a friend of mines shop. Was there for some minor work.

Sad, just, sad.

 

Had a few like that come thru the shop over the years.......
working on one right now in fact. well, not quite that bad

 

Whole lotta mud.

 

Wow. They bought that quarter panel in a can.

 

That's made me kinda throw up a little.

 

A simple magnet would have told the prospective buyer a lot.

 

Yep that’s sad ,so what to do now? Would have to be a big job to rectify

 

Considering what filler now costs, that would be a high dollar build today.

 

I have no idea how the car was represented.
Or how much was spent, price of the car or on the body/paint work.
I’m a tech sheet nerd. I’ve read 1/4 inch maximums for lots of body fillers
I don’t judge fully without seeing recipes.

 

That's how they do it on t.v. Cover whole car then sand it to shape.

 

Wiping from front to back is part of the business.
These cars weren’t straight and had bad gaps when new.

 

That upsetting. I knew a guy that bought a restored 57 Chevy . He got it home and started having electrical issues. The car was represented as a restored garage find . He looked up under the dash and found silt and trash around the wiring . The spot welds in the door jams were pressed into Bondo . The car had been in a flood plain for several years. He got his money back but it was a legal mess

 

You ever wonder what Michelangelo would have created if he had access to "body fillers"? When I saw David in Florence, Italy I was disappointed in his "manliness".  Perhaps the sculptor ran out of stone and had to "deal". A little bondo could have gone "further".

 

Looks like they tried installing Packard taillights and hung them a bit low fixed it with a little mud.

 

Billy, you sound like the real Bandit talking now. LOL.

 

I would of drove it.

 

It would have been less work to tack on a repo panel, or at least knock it back to shape so it ends up within a yard of where it should be.

Don't forget to throw all the neat old bits (like the original interior, engine and trans) into a big bin, making lots of noise and spectacle, so they can put in a nice new shiny LS motor, and some late model interior!

 

I'd barbeque his *** in mol***es! He'd go away till he's grey!

 

Sell it as a modern art Bondo sculpture in the shape of a 55 Chevy.......

That's one way to lower the car

 

I remember years ago stopping to look at a nice shiny '55 Crown Vic for sale. Looked fabulous from the road. Got up close, that car had rust bubbles virtually everywhere one of those could rust. Rockers, bottoms of the doors and trunk lid, front edge of the hood, around the headlights, above the rear window, even peeking out from under some of the trim. Everything else looked great, I'm sure it looked great when the build was fresh. It sat for a long time for sale...

 

I was disappointed also Billy.We waited in line for about an hour to see that little thing.

 

Cripes!
People have been drooling over cars for years that had similar work like that done.

 

Pure sculpture don’t see any news paper or chicken wire so it’s better than some I’ve had the pleasure of knowing

 

In the Dictionary the term Professional means it's your main source of income not the quality of any work. One of the most misused and misunderstood terms in the English language. JW
