I'll crash this thread and expound on the Willys shown above. Some may not know the story of the '33 SWC Willys. First, it isn't a '33, it was a '35 or '36 Willys. They are distinguished from the '33 & '34 cars by the stubby hotdog shaped door handles. the earlier models had swoopy curved handles. All 4 years had the same body so many '33s in the g***er days were '35-6 cars with '33 fibergl*** hoods.

The SWC '33 was called Dark Horse. Story is they had Chuck Finders build it and they raced it against the famous '42 car and it blew the bigger car's doors off. But it blew its engine in the trial races so they sold it to Chuck who rebuilt into the Altizer Finders Kibler Traveler which incidentally is my favorite all-time g***er!


About the same time, Big John Mazmanian saw the handwriting on the wall and got a '35 Model 77 that he planned on turning into a g***er. Unfortunately the Willys was stolen so John scratched the project.


After this period, legendary Willys G***ers started converting to cars other than Willys. Ohio George put his Ford cammer engine in a Mustang, As did SWC, Big John fooled with an Austin and even a Corvette. That was the end of the AAGS golden age. People came to see WILLYS, not boring modern Detroit stuff huffing down the track. So they quickly morphed the AAGS crowd into funny cars to regain the excitement.
Incidentally, I am pretty sure that the AAGS g***er cl*** is the only one in history with supercharged specified in its cl*** spec.

What is a photo film of a black 1958 Impala doing in a powder blue hot rod picture thread? If you play the film capture, you will see what the fast red 41 Willys Coupe of K.S. Pittman with his record setting first Willys Coupe has for a push/tow truck.

The combination of the fast red Willys Coupe pushed/towed by the powder blue Ford Truck was well known on the return road or the compe***or’s pits area.

My brother allowed me to run with the Bruce slicks mounted on black rims and see how fast I could go in the 1958 Impala. So, he filmed me on another time trial run. As luck would have it, as I was coming back from the end of the time trial, the film shows all three vehicles in one quick flash on the film.

Me in the 58 Impala with the black Bruce Slicks on the rear tires, the red 41 Willys Coupe blasting down towards the finish line and the powder blue Ford Truck heading my way on the return road to go pick up the red Willys.


Such a small world, but, my brother and I being at Lion’s Dragstrip almost every weekend from 1957 Fall to the Fall of 1960 allows for plenty of filming and fun drag racing times… YRMV

I might know a little bit about that. I used to see him at NSRA Spokane and NSRA Salem many times over the years. Always showed with his brother Les .
