rebuilding after the crash

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by racer-x, Sep 19, 2015.

  1. Talking to Bruno the fluid was rerouted. The pressure built up in the converter. It got supper heated unable to return to the pan. The seal got pushed out. Leaking fluid caught on fire exploding the pan. The gears broke after that. The new Bruno arrives tomorrow. New tires today. It might run at the Grove next weekend for testing

    When you say Rerouted ,
    Now or then ?
Fix a bigger return port ,line to pan
    Or maybe bigger vent

    Cooler will be byp***ed ,
    If So cooler too big
    Or to small.
Looks over winter cooler was removed from in front of tank , Looked to been a B&M , was that cooler moved to your
Recirculation cool down tool /Dolly .

If so was another add to car in different location ,
If so same model or another brand & if so a different GPM ,

I have seen some cooler have a
    # 8 or 10 fitting then on inside
    Neck down some 1/4 , 5/16 or 3/8 port
    Same with steel hyd fitting's
Not smooth & free flowing causing cavitation creating air pockets .

I seen racer that I was around 20 yrs ago where using Bruno in 1,500 -2,000 hp
Tq 1,000 to 1,500 ish , then wants up into 2,300 plus switched to autos & lock up , on average 25k trans & converter.
Now there are many going back to
B&J , Lenco ext & if not using a clutch they have sorta big stock of parts for @ race serviceable converter ,
Some of these racer's I can not rap my head in how they are funding

Could you run a kevlar diaper around the transmission to help contain things?

Trying to make sense of this. Deliberately rerouted (via fluid cooler) or by malfunction. The picture above with the gear and the cracked housing is the Bruno converter drive Pump is it not?

Last season, Brian had a car mounted transmission cooler that was not up to the task with the increase in performance that the car would be seeing this season. He built a remote mounted transmission cooler cart that was quick coupled to the transmission between rounds. To correctly make this swap, Bruno did not tell Brian that he needed to add a hose between to two cooler ports on the transmission for it to function without the transmission cooler cart attached. That caused the pump pressure to dead head in the converter and multiple problems compounded until the weakest link exposed itself at the worst possible time.

  12. Light the fuse and move back. The entire drive train is back in. Jerry Kaye has the body looking good. The floor is ready to go back in. I have a few small items to finish. The drivers side window and windshield need to go back in. It's almost ready to fire and track test. Thanks to my great crew on knocking it out . We never quit. Man, I know you’re a race it, brake it, fix it and make it faster wash and repeat kinda guy but even I was a little surprised at the quick turn around from the carnage I missed in the last few pages!

stop getting post notifications and Brian has exploded the car and put it back together two times since the last time I checked in lol. Talk about go big or go home! Love watching this thread man. Glad you are safe.

  18. If you ever wonder why I work so hard it's because of my experiences in health care. So many times patients have said if I had only known I was going to get sick I would have lived life differently. They say I would have sky dived; taken that trip to Europe etc. So do it while you can. I know someday I won't be able to do what I do now. Go live life.
