Extreme V8 healey build thread

Black, white or gray, I stay away from the blue end of the spectrum. Red is okay! Just a blue-green colorblind opinion

 

Unmasked and outside. Im pretty happy with it. The red wheels are kinda growing on me.

Im thinking a license plate that reads cobrklr. Would be kinda cool. The only problem is, I want to run a vintage green washington plate, and I have way to much love and respect for the flat side cobras to challenge their place as the ultimate in motor swapped english cars. I am content in knowing that I built my own version of shelbys little monster, and I am very anxious to put many miles on mine.

Well, the hood and decklid turned out nice, got the car home and now its ready to begin re ***embly.

 

Amazing vision, and to have the skills to pull it together is super impressive!

While not traditional. that'd really pop w/the RealFire flames.
& guys've been swapping sbc's in healys for a long time - most grew old trying it, but... .
IIRC, John Lennon had one done for himself in the early 60s. Not a super-car-level, but worlds better than stock. . & no, not even close to your level of work. I like the ch***is, btw!.

I'm gonna watch this one, I've always had a soft spot for British sports cars. I used to know a guy who had a 327-powered Healey. It was a total hash job swap besides being a rust bucket, but was still scary fast. Scary in other ways too...

 

The only body mod that this car is getting. A race inspired fuel fill. Looks good with the trunk hinges on it and the grill back in it. Next is to weld up the extra holes in the dash and paint it to mach.

 

Makes it that much faster

 

Quite a few years ago, a black one with the Rover v8 showed up at Salina. I know there is more than one because one sold on BAT. However, they aren't the real deal to me. I build ch***is' and used modern suspension components on my projects. You are going in the same direction as I would. I hope you are able to meet your goal without compromise. I look forward to a 1st drive video when you show us what it can do. Nice work.

The car looks great in gloss black indeed.

I totally get the fact that the wire wheels are already painted red, and to a certain extent, they look great.

Forgive my paltry attempt at trying to manipulate color via my mouse pad.

This is just my idea of how cool green, even darker than this green would potentially look if the wire wheels were a nice crisp darker shade of green, it would really contrast well against the gloss black, but that is just my opinion, your results may vary greatly!

I am leaning tword silver on the wheels, not chrome, just silver.

 

I was also thinking that a set of spun aluminum Moon disc’s wheel covers would have a distinctive look as well!

 

That Healy is coming out great! You also have other awesome toys in your shop. Not to hijack your thread, but I had a “poor man’s” Cobra a few years ago. It was a ‘72 Triumph Spitfire with a custom ch***is that I bought as a “roller”. I installed a 327/th350 combo that I had in it, along with tons of other mods. Scary fast, but didn’t handle particularly well. Sorry that I didn’t keep it…

 

Red wheels, red leather interior. I like your banjo wheel, but I may be biased. You might look into Speedhut for their GPS gauges. Their fuel gauge is also universal and can be dialed in to use most any sender. We often see Austin Healy’s at our British car show. Our MGB, severely lacking in the HP department, but black dash.

 

I like that mgb a lot. Many years ago I did a black 69 mgb with a ford v6 and an automatic, it was fun. That was a lot of the inspiration for this healey project.

 

I hadn’t ever thought of getting an MGB but this one belonged to our service manager where I worked. He drove it to the company picnic one year and the Mrs. saw it there and told him immediately, if you ever want to sell that call us! I was sort of gob smacked by that statement as she isn’t interested in cars in general. Well, years later we saw him and his wife while out shopping. One thing led to another and it’s been ours for around 10 years now. Five of which it wasn’t running for one reason or another. It’s nice to have it reliable now. I hop in it to go to the store or to the farmers market. It’s no speed demon despite a cam and header. It does have electric overdrive, so 70 mph on the highway is easy, but you really FEEL you are in a tiny car and everyone wants to drive over you.
Your Healy will be pretty amazing when done. Put some bright LED’s in your tail lamps. A black car at night that small will disappear. Thanks for starting the thread!

 

Made a little progress today. Wind shield, fender welting, front lights.

Looking for a lower one for my next build.

 

Decided to cut the wall between the p***enger compartment and rear end ***y. To set the seats , that I made to clear the wheel tubs,back into it. This gave me 4 more inches of leg room. Also got the fender welting on and fenders lined up. These cars had a polished aluminum welting, but I like the black rubber against the black paint. Next is interior. Im going all black, with stock style pleats in the seats.

 

That’s a ton of added room in a car that size! Good move

 

Yea, I am 5 ft 9 and it fit me ok, now I have tons of room and my kid that is 6 ft 1 can drive it comfortably.
