Yesterday I went two counties west to go to a cool annual hot rod picnic. Saw a lot of nice old quarter mile runners. Took some pictures...enjoy.

  16. J Ed Horton's picnic always has an awesome selection of FED's. Enjoyed seeing both Hundley & Boggs cars on display. Thanks to Richie Boggs, we will have them at the Local Legens Lost 9-11 cruse at the WV Drag Racer Hall of Fame in Winfield, WV. on September 11, 2026 from 5pm till dark. It is an event to recognize and honor local "car guys" that have p***ed away in the last 10 years. Event is open to the public and free of charge. Come spend the day with us!

    Hello,

Nice photos. but, on most cameras and even phones, a "record sound" tab is available to record the actual sound of the "cackling" of those famous old fuel dragsters. Here is a cackle from the western half of the timeline race cars:

Yes, my eyes were watering and the aroma filled the air for a few minutes to make the brain go back many years to remember the action and smell. YRMV

Jimmy Nix is from here in Oklahoma. He is buried close to my sister. His headstone is pretty cool, as far as headstones go....

Is that the real Chizler or a clone?

    Thanks for the pics.

Not sure about real vs clone. Either way it’s a great looking, well done car. Maybe somebody on here knows. Unfortunately, I had a commitment and had to leave before they fired them up; otherwise you can bet there’d be video with sound!!

    Hello,

The first time we saw the “Chizzler” in person was in 1959. This was the one that set plenty of drag racing records… But, since then “the Chizzler” has gone through many versions.
    upload_2026-5-13_4-29-49.png
The next time I saw the latest “Chizzler” was at the grand opening of the original Lion’s Dragstrip Museum. Back in 2017, the original Lion’s Dragstrip Museum opened with a flurry. The cars on display were one of a kind and from all phases of the dragstrip, from the opening of the 1955 day to the closing in 1972. History was well do***ented by all of the displays surrounding the So Cal drag racing scene.

On the main floor of the original displays were two FED race cars from drag racing history.

Finally, as near as 2019 and the grand re-opening of a new, revised Lion’s Dragstrip Museum, the recreated scene is movable and the rotating drag race cars on display changes. The complete timing tower that was built over the staging area was shown, including some of the different race cars that were there… YRMV

GREAT brings back a lot of memories of the old Connecticut Dragway. Long Gone but there are a few others left just longer distance to get to them
