Where's the fuses on a 56 Stude?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Nov 13, 2006.

  1. My gas and temp gauges aren't working, and i'm hoping it's just a fuse. ****The car's been sitting, and the gauges started working today*******

if it has fuses, they'll be in the circuit somewhere, there's no fuse box. but more likely it has a bad voltage regulator for the gages

  3. Good to know. Those things have a CVR (constant voltage regulator) for the gauges then?

if it's 12v they could, if it's 6v probably not....but I'm not a stude expert, I just looked in the old chiltons for fuse locations, they're all over the car.

Isn't the temp gauge a ammonia sender with a borboun (sic) tube? That would make it a mechanical gauge, hence no electric needed cept for the bulb. Also run a quick jumper wire from the mount of the gas sending unit to a good known ground and see it it works then. These old things are very sensitive to good grounds.

  6. No, it's electrical.

if its 6v, there is not a gauge v-r. its prolly just like the 53 i had . both those gauges are powered on the same circuit i dont remember seeing any gl*** fuses but there were circuit breakers as fuses in the panel and it was behind the left side of the dash above the heater and od cables. id guess you have a bad connection there. i used to have a wiring diagram but it went with the car when i sold it...
