Are you a Ford, Chevy or Mopar guy? Why?

Mopar or Nocar . . . my dad was a tri-five guy when he was young. When my parents got divorced he bought a '66 Coronet cheap, the car opened up his eyes - never went back. Die Hard Mopar ever since and preached it to me.

 

I'm a whatever trips my trigger guy. I have owned Chevys, a Plymouth, three Buicks and now 2 Fords. I grew up in a Mopar family, therefore my first hot rod was the 41 Plymouth and I still enjoy it. I never thought I'd own Fords but now I have the 40 Sedan Delivery with SBC and the 56 Wagon with a FORD engine. Wonders never cease.

 

From the time I was probably two until today it’s been Ford but I’ve had a 440 powered something in the garage for over forty years.
I guess I did have a foreign affair for a few years with air cooled VWs…

 

I guess I never thought about it but this thread is in OT section. My nearest and dearest car is an 64 Austin Healey Sprite that was my dads I’m completely re building it a lot of metal work due to the water soluble steel it’s made from, hopefully on the road this year yet. The sound of warmed up snarly 1098 A Motor is pure music.

The opposite is true too. Last time I had a T shirt with a Ford logo in it some dude at the bar says "hey, they circled problem for ya". I said actually it's an oval, but I wouldn't expect a Chevy fan to know the difference...

 

Always been a Chevy guy, cause that’s what my dad was. As I’ve gotten older I’m attracted to weird things more and more. I’ve had a few Fords over the years, but never owned a Chrysler.
I can appreciate anything cool though, in the end it doesn’t matter what the original manufacturer was if it’s a hot rod and it’s been done tastefully, I can appreciate it.

 

I was really surprised when a new acquaintance called me a Ford Guy. He knows I have a 56 F100 and a pos 06 F250. But I also have a 71 Cutl*** and a 19 GMC Acadia. I also have owned many Mopars including a '68 Road Runner and a '65 Coronet. It just sounded funny to me being called a Ford guy, but I guess I am. I like 'em all.

As I stated earlier I am a Ford guy but I have owned a 1967 Chevelle, or I should say "The Chevelle from Hell" that car cost me money every time I drove it, I honestly believe that car hated me. HRP

 

Chevy guy, but why? Over the years have owned, fixed, and rebuilt many different cars, trucks and motorcycles of every sort.

Dad was a Ford guy, my first car a VW Bug that I tortured to death, then got my 59 El Camino with 283 Power Pack and T10. Anything I owned was bought with my hard earned money and fixed by me. The El Camino was body worked and painted metallic black. Engine was tuned and detailed out the best I knew how. Flogged that 283 and T10 hard and it never missed a beat.

Went to work at the local Chevy dealer at 19, 16 years there and 20 more years at other GM dealers, before moving on to manage a government fleet primarily of Fords. Owned and built many SBC's. The pinnacle of my SBC world was a dirt track Monte Carlo with a destroked 400. What an amazing engine that was.

Last two pickups have been Fords. My 99 F150 blew the engine on a toad trip, got towed to a dealership and bought a slightly used '16 F150 with the 2.7 twin turbo. That engine blew and was replaced under extended warranty. Not a Ford fan at all, but crossing my fingers it holds together. I do like driving it. The wife mostly drives Toyota.

One of my buddies is a super die hard Ford man, the other is a devoted Mopar drag racer.

My Model A RPU is getting the full GM treatment with a Duntov equipped 283, TH-350 and S10 rear end.

 

If you have to put a label on me, I guess I would be listed as a Chevy guy because they are easier and cheaper to build for performance. I have owned every brand made by GM, a few Fords, a Plymouth and Datsun, Honda, Nissan and Toyota so I don't consider myself a brand loyal guy. Every car manufacturer has built some good cars and some bad cars so I try to always buy one of the good models.

 

I think I am a Ford guy, I have four of those, but I also have a 71 Cutl*** convertible and a 72 El Camino

Not picky, as long as it has a straight 6, I like it.

V8s? Front mount distributor is a must, other than that, don’t care. As long as it is carbureted, I’m even converting my Vortec 350 powered OT search and rescue 1t 4wd dually to 4bbl/coil in cap distributor until I can shoehorn a Buick 455 or Cad 425-500 under the hood. If I could make the NV4500 “play nice” with my 413, it would happen instead…

Truck guy primarily. 2wd get lowered or left stock ride height, depending on the body style. 4wd go up or left stock, same reason.

 

MoPar guy here who also loves Corvettes.
I grew up with my Dad's 69 Road Runner in the garage which he still owns to this day along with his 65 Sport Fury 426 Wedge car. I have had my 65 Sport Fury Pace Car since I was 16 along with a few other MoPars and a C5.
Growing up we spent a lot of time at Edgewater near Cincinnati and my dad was good friends with Dean Mink who always raced Hemi Cars, plus the town I grew up in had a healthy MoPar following and we always had nice ones at any Cruise in, including a mean 68 Road Runner named 'The Son of Thunder' that ran a built 426 Hemi running a cross ram setup.
For the Corvette side, my uncle always had Vettes from 57-74's and even a few later ones, small block, big block etc and took some fun rides with him.
MoPar is still my favorite, reliable (a slant 6 carried me through high school and college), easy to build and make power with from a small or big block, but on the expensive side at times. 273, 340, 360, 361, 383, 400, 413, 426 W, 440 and the legendary 426 Hemis from the muscle car era are all great and the 50s era Hemis are fun to play with too.

I cam dig that. I'm a Ford guy, but a corvette? Yeah, I could own a corvette no problem. Especially something like Moriarty or squirrels cars....
