Projects Scored another Model A

Browsing the local Facebook and this popped up for sale cheap enough and pretty close so I had some conversations with the owner. I was the first guy to bite ,and there was 20 behind me ! Went and checked it out and it hasn't run since 97 but that's fine. It's got a ***le, straightest body I've seen in a long time, and a pretty good interior. Plans for now are to get it up and running and put around and then figure everything else out.

 

Wowsers!, y’all hit the jackpot, won the lottery that is, struck gold. The interior is in great shape, needs a banger though. Hehe

Picked up a 31Coupe on Tuesday sat in the barn since mid 50ties

Was soaking the Pistons in the special mixture of ATF and acetone and still wouldn't budge with a pry bar on the flywheel through the starter hole. Pulled the head off which came off really easy for once. Number four cylinder has rust in it so I proceeded to clean it up and started smacking the Pistons with a 2x4 to get it moving around which worked out great. Once I got that cylinder down all the way on the stroke I ran a ball hone through it and cleaned it up. Couple valves were stuck so I sprayed them with some penetrating fluid. I put the starter back in and she spins over easily and all the valves seem to be free. Got to head gasket and some ignition parts coming tomorrow. Drain the old oil out and there was a little bit of water which is to be expected I guess from the water in the cylinder. We shall see what happens I'm sure it will run but how much is smokes who knows...

 

Might have a cracked water jacket, if so, preferably in the head. or maybe just head gasket ? Car looks great, congrats.

My first ride in an old car/Hot Rod was an A tudor with a SBC. Same fella still owns it, I have a real soft spot for them. Looking forward to watching the journey

 

Before you start it only put in about a quart of Rotella 10W30 and 3 quarts of Kerosene. run it for about 5 minutes at idle. It wont hurt it and it will loosen up the gunk in the oil pan, crank drip tray and valve chamber. Drain that out and refill with Rotella 10W 30 and run it.

They're out there. Drove this one home for $9,500. Even had a great car cover and a few hundred $ in spares.

 

Parts came in today. Got the head and block cleaned up and copper coated the copperhead gasket and installed it with a new leakless water pump. Hopefully fire tomorrow but we'll see, the shop is full.

 

Filed the points and set the timing, cleaned the gunk out of the fuel line from the tank to the sediment bowl and replaced the bowl and filter screen and voila it's alive! Runs really smooth. Just got to pull it outside and hook up the coolant hoses so I can put water in it and change the broken crank pulley and burn all the oil out of the cylinders.

 

If you have to replace the crank pulley get the harmonic balancer and help save the bearings. Babbitt is hard to find anyone to do it and get it correct anymore. Address is, chrismh157@gmail.com and the cost is $350 U.S. shipped.

Had to pull out the radiator to flush out the garbage and it still wouldn't flow too good so I let it soak overnight in CLR. That did the trick. Put it all back together with some new hoses and the thing runs nice and cool. Changed the trans fluid and rear end which were basically empty and drove it up and down the street. It's got an intake manifold leak which I've got some gaskets coming for and it's making a miss a little bit off idle I believe. The tires are a little bit Square LOL

 

Good week for old Fords. My buddy just did a first drive with his ‘40 2dr sedan too!
