Hi, I picked this up locally today It's been narrowed 50/51 inches flange to flange. Appears to have guessing Ford ends/brakes aftermarket 31 spline axles measure about 1.5" OD. The third member is a casting number 522496 3 fin with 3.42 stamped on one of the webs. Also no casting date just a Square casting a w or m in the middle. Also has 5.86 gear ratio (7/41) and a 2 piece posi the only casting numbers I can make out is 30942. I have the Fabcraft manual but don't see any of the numbers from this axle. So what do I have? According to this photo off the internet, the Ford 9 3/8" can be identified by the top rib that curves downward. Can't confirm that. Is it present on yours?
It's an Olds / Pontiac rear end. Can't tell from the pictures if it's the early small one or the big "57-"64 version.
Nice find whatever it is! 31 spines indicates later carrier, but that info is in Brad's book. 3rd member ID should be in the book too?
Hi, It's a 9.3 Pontiac/Olds just the casting number is 57/58 yet has 3 ribs like a 60-62 and has a different square cast where you normally see a date code also weird it's stamped 342 Regards, Jim
Great rear end. Higher pinion placement takes less hp. New lower gears if using an overdrive trans. In its heyday one of the best rears for drag racing.
