Art & Inspiration 1965 RAMBLER MARLIN

I wonder if that could work Reto fitted to my YUGO.

 

Would be easy to spot in a crowded parking lot!

 

Have one in pieces. Body is behind a building while a fully machined but now rusty engine block and heads sit inside. Don't know if there are engine internals as I have not looked at it in 10 years. I'll grab a pic or 2 sometime today.

 

The Marlin ,shape/style n size{ looked too big} from first one I ever saw, looked frumby/nerd/old lady car,a nope,to me. But reading some replys,shows me some others like it, I do like AMX an Javelin. I even own a used Rambler 57 Wagon for time. But the 6 cly blow a rod on way home,opened hood with it still running,and rod poping out n in of side of block looked kind of funny,so just drove it the extra 5 miles home anyway. Sold it that way,for a few more doller then I had payed used to start with> But I had a new paint job on it. So its not that I don't like Ramblers ....

The prototype was on the smaller Rambler body as I remember (not very often). It looked a bit better. Two bad, they probably(?) could have sold more of the smaller version -- probably at a lower price, price too.

(I still like it -- something different for a change.)

 

What a waste.Hate to see any old car rotting away.

 

I know ramblers didn’t have the money the big three had to do all aspects of car building but I wish they would have made a more streamlined front sheet metal. The rear of the Marlins were so Shapley and the front was square and ugly.

 

I think 15" tires and wide as would fit in the wheel wells would really look better on the Marlin.Stance is everything some times.

Went and grabbed a few pics. Not sure where the rods and pistons are. Have the bellhousing ...the 3-speed might be in the car. I didn't look for it.

 

One of my buddies had a Scrambler, would have been around 77 or 78. It had a 401(?) 4bbl, 4 speed. That car was FAST! At one point he came up with a 2 bucket seat AMX, he almost lost his license with that one, the night he blew up the motor! He spent a couple years looking for another motor, don't think he ever found the motor he was looking for. He was hard core American Motors until he couldn't find the motor he was looking for.

That guy could find some really fast cars! At one time he had a 67 Plymouth 4 door Fury III with a hot 440, was an ex-state police car. Then he showed up with a 429 Ford in an ex- state police car.
He did dirt track racing for a few years, then went into demo derby for several years, then he did a thing he called car rodeo (the stuff done with horses in the cowboy rodeos, but the horses were replaced with cars) that was pretty wild. We are both retired now, but I still bump into him once and a while, we reminisce about old times. Great guy.

I have always liked the wide open hardtop look the swept back roof creates. Remembering those hot summer nights with all of the windows rolled down and the breeze coming inside of the 1958 Impala was always a treat.

The car did not have A/C as it robbed at least 15 hp with all of the belts that would be on the motor. So, no A/C meant a faster sedan for those teenage encounters.

Digging into my art files, I had already started a 65 Rambler Sedan Hardtop for the now gone, Gas Coupe/Sedan Cl***. A low rake hardtop model with a supercharged motor. No straight axle or high stance, it was designed to follow the latest funny car race car design parameters, that have that low stance and powerful motor. Add a few custom touches and it would fit right into the local car show displays…

Then I decided that back in those days, I also wanted a nice station wagon to take my surfboard to the local beaches. So, I decided to change the hardtop sedan to a hardtop station wagon, trying to keep the stylish hardtop design still incorporated overall. The rear windows on both sides were slightly larger to allow better vision on the “always blind spot” right rear quarter panel, created by all things stylish.

The same powerful supercharged motor, the same lowered rake stance would allow me to cruise to the surf spots in style. In those old days, the single long board would fit nicely on the p***enger side area with the bucket seats lowered. If two longboards or more were involved, a rack would be used. YRMV

But, since Summer is just starting for some schools and colleges,

Seller just jerked up the price from $18K to $20K! Think I'll p***.
