Technical Front cover distributor

Is there a performance benefit from a front cover distributor drive? Simple question but can’t seem to find an answer anywhere.

Yes. I seem to get distributor things done faster when it's in front except when it's a helmet or crab.

 

If you have super high valve spring pressure and you don't have crank triggered ignition, you might be a better off
with the ignition timing not effected by cam twist oscillations. You still have the problem with chain or gear slop though. So unless you intend on building thousands of horsepower the only advantage might be access

 

You can tell all your friends it’s Ford…. “See the distributor is in the front”

I use that with my “wye” block… see the distributor is is in the back so it must be a Chevrolet! Right.

 

There is multiple benefits besides room from rear to front even if each benefit is 1/16 hp it adds up .
There more to a distributor if you examine the working , component timing more then most think out side rotor to pole , point cam ,pick up .
& Quality , Precision matters

 

No distributor maybe even better. But some said it won't work.

 

It worked but had worse issues than cam twist.
