Technical Image Enhancement for Dummies?

The other day I was enjoying a thread here and someone posted some neat old B&W pictures. A post or two later, someone reposted those photos cleaned up and much sharper stating that they used Copilot to reprocess them. I have some pictures that I would love to improve so I went back looking to see who posted the enhanced images but couldn’t find them. I’m sure there are many here who have old photos that they haven’t posted because they are poor quality. I know that there are some clever folks here who embrace new technology much more than I and I’m hoping that they will share the process with us.
This is one image that I would like to see improved. I don’t know who took it or when, but it’s a cl***ic (it’s also my dream car) It’s not too bad but could be better.
Anyone care to educate us?

Here is a simple photo program adjustment for your old photo. I would like to get more blue into the sky, but then the rest of the background goes crazy. No AI programs, as I do not like those, since they do not know old cars or any photo with clarity.

Yes, using the listed laptop photo program is a version of AI in a way, but, at least it is our eye to change what needs to be changed.

If one could get the blue sky slightly darker without losing the driver's face and making the door paint less of a weird result, then yes change the color. but, using what we all have in our home computers and laptops, without going to AI programs is for me old school and that it the way it is... YRMV

 

I downloaded your picture, then had my cell phone's "google photos" enhance it.

 

Oh yeah, that was the example that I was thinking of.
I read an instruction that said to verbally describe what you want and upload the image, etc but being sorta computer illiterate I wasn’t ready to try it. I was wondering how brg404 did it. It seems like something that I’d like to learn. I recently found some great old photos of my family and friends enjoying the flatbottom ski boat that my Dad built for us in the early 60s but they are about the same quality as the deuce photo I posted.

@bchctybob my question is off topic, but what the heck is that engine in the coupe? Initially I was thinking a nailhead Buick but the carburetion had me confused, then when @fastcar1953 showed the enhanced image it looks like it could be a straight six. Any idea?

 

I see 6 plug wires. It doesn't look like a V8.

Fordors/BJR: I ***umed that it was an Olds judging by the fuzzy image, now I don’t know? From the amount of stuff in front of the carburetor - breather & fuel pump(?), it looks like a Cad or Stude but the valve covers don’t look right. ??? Looks too short to be an in-line 6.

I’d like to fix my family pictures like that but I’m not sure that the Mods would ok the photos. Two are of an old homemade Pontiac powered flatbottom ski boat and one is a cl***ic outboard.

The license plate on the unrestored photo is backwards (reversed photo?) but the license on the enhanced photo reads correctly and has more numbers than the original.

How did that happen?

 

This is an interesting thread. It reminds me of being a vendor at swap meets and without fail more than once during the event usually an older guy would show up with a photo. It would be old and faded from being in his wallet for the last twenty five years or more. And he would show it to you with great pride because it was the only picture he had of it.

 

^^^^ Exactly. Somewhere I have the only photo of my first car, a ‘40 Ford Deluxe coupe. It’s one of those old B&W photos with a white border. It’s old and faded and never was a great picture. If I can find it, I would love to give it the AI treatment, enlarge it and frame it.

I'm always amazed at how many guys I run into over the years who don't have at least one picture of their car. I can understand those who don't have one from the fifties and sixties but I'm talking about cars they had in the eighties and beyond. I travelled to car shows and cruise nights with at least one roll of film to the event. Many times guys would hunt me down to find a picture of their car. I started bringing a stack of cd discs with pictures from the shows over the years to give out to anyone who was looking for pictures.

 

Well that's mighty generous of you! Great way to make some new friends at the car shows and cruises. You might consider watermarking them discreetly with your name and a copyright. It might help to keep someone from using one of your photos and claiming it as their own.

 

Bob...I saw the same thread with that old photo of that custom that was fixed up by Copilot. My 70 Corvette has a very weak tank sticker.. I thought oh man..if Copilot can clean it and enhance it...thatd be awesome This was its result.

 

Looks good. Was it Copilot 365 or what? I went to get the app and there seems to be several similar Apps with Copilot in the name. My phone is an iPhone 7 - don’t laugh…. It’s small and has served faithfully its whole life. Takes really good photos too. My iPad is also a few years old . But they both are updated to a current level and supposedly can support Copilot. I just don’t know which Copilot I need. Dang, I wish my daughter was home!
