Hi, I was wondering if anyone used this paint Hot Rod Flatz paint? I have DP90 on my car and cant stand it anytime anyone touches it you could see it from a mile away, and it stains very easily. Does the hot rod flatz paint show handprints too? also can it be waxed? or will that ruin the flat finish? thanks dave

It is nothing more than Omni Acrylic Urethane with flattening agent. If you wax it or buff it, it will shine. You can get the same thing from your local auto body supply for less money. All KustomShopz does is slap the Hot Rod Flatz logo over the Omni logo and charges more. Its a decent finish, just thought Id try to save you some cash if I could.

thanks Roach, that's funny, a friend of mine had a speed shop a few years back and bought this fancy satin black detail paint which they use on Muscle cars under the hood it was about $15.00 a can, when he recieved it it had a paper label glued around the can, so I decided to pull it off to see what was underneath and it was a can of $5.00 krylon semi-flat black, sounds like the same things happening here. I have used Omni paint before it's not bad for the price. I quess thats the route I will go. Do you know if it will mark as bad as the DP90 everytime someone touches it? thanks for the info.

It shouldnt leave any marks if people touch it once its good and dry. Same normal single stage stuff with a little flattening agent. On something flat I always use a window cleaner that contains NO amonia and a terry cloth towel or a cheap micro fiber towel. Dont know if the amonia in Windex would cause any problems but Id rather not find out personally.

I have been using windex on the DP90 and it seems to do a good job, is this Dupont Hot Rod Black (hot hues) the same as Hot Rod Flatz paint ?

try sherwin williams industrial and marine coatings flat black spray bomb. its awsome stuff. i have had it on motorcyle gas tanks and gas drops wipe right off.
i also recently discovered (by accident) that putting gloss black and thinner on a rag together, and while the rag is still wet, wiping it on the already dried sherwin williams coat gives it a super cool satin look.

The Dupont Hot Rod Black is the same acrylic urethane, just a better version than Omni.

I think they stopped using the omni. the new hotrod flatz is Urethane. the original stuff was Acrylic Enamel. I painted my car with the original Acrylic. It worked great. Now I want to two-tone my car. will they work together?

Omni AU is acrylic urethane, Omni AE is acrylic enamel, not much of a price difference but the AU is tons better

I used to paint cars for the Air Force and we used to paint the humvee's with poly but the clear coat was flat. It was made by Dupont, anyone try it? I haven't used it in about 7 years because I changed jobs. I was just wondering if anyone used this stuff and if so did it protect against rust any better than some of the other stuff most of you guys use?

I just shot the hot rod flatz for the first time, I like the flat finish because it's a little flatter than just flattening normal paint. Just a tip though, don't leave any sand thru spots in your primer. I used the black hot rod flatz and all the sand thru spots kept showing thru no matter how many coats. I had to seal the car and reshoot the black.

We can't legally use John Deere Blitz Black out here, I've been told by a Deere dealer that it's a VOC emission problem. How about "black market" Blitz??

50 years of junk. I wiped it down with mineral spirits first, wiped it dry and shot it with a little mineral spirits to thin it down. 1 qt did 2 light coats. I haven't really had it out yet, but it's better than the faded junk I had before. Touches up with a spray can.

Valspar Farm Implement Low Gloss Black from Tractor Supply Co. $20 a gallon. If your feeling wealthy chip in the 8 bucks for the hardener too. I painted two trucks out of the same gallon and still have some left. They even have matching rattle cans for touchups.

What kind of car did you shoot? Do you think one gallon would be enough to do a 1950 ford? Thanks

The Dupont poly is still around but the price makes it hard to justify when you can use hot hues, or many other brands for a lot less money. If you want it to be durable make sure you use an activated product.

My 32 sedans painted with Krylon semi flat black. I use scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleanser, has a mild abrasive quality which slicks up the flatblack paint really nice. Maybe that why some guys say my deuce is kind of a toilet?

hot rod flatz works!!!!! it's not Omni anymore it's a 2.1 acrylic urethane. not sure who's paints is in the can nor do i care, i found it to be the best product for what i was looking for. lots of colors to choose from, metallics and pearls they also offer all flat colors in gloss
OMNI will run you about $120.00 if all you want is black!!!!
