I'd just go with a bull horn hood ornament - or even better, a couple of them one on each side

 

Man, I don't know, with the entire bull (or is it an Ox?) up there, your covering up that vintage sheet metal patina. Maybe you just need the bull (or Ox) head attached to the front fenders just forward of the front wheels.

 

yeah, it'll take me a while to figure it out. Using just the head is a good idea, also less work

Yea, you could make a couple of cut outs of just the head from 1/4" plywood have a couple of posters of the heads printed off and staple them to the plywood, and then screw the heads to the front fenders, so the top was only a couple inches above the hood line.

Would be a fine addition to the Pioneer Malibu.

I pulled the cover off the rear end, so I could change the oil, and pull the axles out to look at the bearing surfaces. But when I took out the bolt that holds in the cross pin, only the outer 1/2" inch of threads came with it, the rest was stuck in the differential. So....I tried to unscrew it with a scribe, but no go. I decided to just let the bearings be, after all, what could possibly go wrong? (I've only been stranded by bad rear wheel bearings twice on LeMons Rallys)

Oh...the gasket they sell for these is not the right one, which is a bit harder to get. So I used RTV to seal the cover when I put it back together.

The oil was really yucky, but I didn't see any rust on the ring gear. So it should be fine.

I also changed the engine oil, to get rid of the big collection of metal particles that always seem to plague my freshly overhauled engines.

 

I situations like these I tell myself that the bearings will grind themselves in after a few 1000 miles, I´m sure it´ll be fine! This works at least 1 out of ten times for me. I´ll keep my finger crossed for you!

 

Boy those retainer pins sure seem to break a lot!

 

One of my brother in laws had a bad habit of killing rear ends, nearly every one was an open rear end he busted up the spider gears in. The spider gears in those one wheel wonders are turning some serious rpm when the one tire is smoking and the motor is red lining. As far as he was concerned, as long as the tire was smoking, life was great, he saw no reason to let up on the gas. Those gears were not intended to turn that fast for that long! I can't count how many gears seized up on the shaft the poor retainer pin is suppose to hold in place so the shaft won't spin.
He got pretty good at swapping out rear ends.

 

Those 8” fords were like that, spiders would fail and the next thing you knew was that you had a spool out back, I guess I did have one act like a locker for a while. One thing was for sure they were junk when I got done with them.

 

I think the cross shaft retainer stud bolt was installed broken by GM.. LOL Seems like I have only seen 1 or 2 that were not broken.

 

I believe there is a tool for removing the broken pin....I recall I have one somewhere......

 

Hopefully it will survive a 5000 mile trip, and I won't have to mess with it.

 

Pure craziness.

 

Get the welder out and it will last as long as you want it to…

 

I didn't figure out how to make the oxen yet.

But I left for Independence. Camping at a state park in New Mexico tonight. Asked for dinner on the way there, so I thought I'd post.

Stopped for gas, checked the oil, it's still full. But the hot air tube fitting broke off the air cleaner. Oh well.
