  2. This is what I usually do. It's rare to find a car that's exactly what you want or would build...you have to change things anyhow why not start with a cheaper canvas.

But you can go too far also, take an 80s/90s billet street rod of pastel awesomeness....would need to get it almost free to be able remake it into something decent price wise.

Closest is un-street rodding to rebuild a hot rod.

These will help fund the build also......in a small way of course.

The only way you'll wind up with $32k on the car, is to sell all the parts for $64k. Shipping costs are out of sight, time / labor tearing it apart, advertising & correspondence, dealing with the various nut-jobs that invariably try to low-ball you, are all part of the hidden costs.

Not a 32 Roadster it's a ’31 Model A Brookville body sitting on 32 rails. There is a fair difference in value between a 32 and an A.

Your not going to touch a car like that for $12,000.

There is about $4,000 for the rear with out brakes alone .
A rolling ch***is with new parts and just a 9" rear and standard disk brakes is around $10,000. .
There is a $8000 body when bare
That car is not some pile of used parts pieced together. It's got nice interior , and a nice engine with all the stuff and so on .

It got bid up to $32,000 plus fees for a reason.

someone looking for a A on 32 rails with a dressed up flat head and a quick change they can drive right now is not going to hesitate at $20,000. There going to think for a few minutes at $25,000 check the ***le and be sure it's really steel .

    I'd drop $20,000 on it quick .
Hard to call it a $15,000 car when it sells at auction for $32,000

    Southern Caif , & tie's to same area before 30's .
I know where to source parts ,
I give what they ask ,
In my steel 5 w No paint thoe I did all labor. In parts I have what you mention of 2 body & 1 Q-C in compleat driver .
New & used . Took I would say 1 yr
But drivable in 6 mounts .
this been in last 6 yrs .
Not 15 or so yrs ago .

Seems like a lot of work for a more or less break-even prospect. If a person had $32K to spare, there are better ways of making a profit that carry less risk.

    It’s an ***embled ride.
So just a question, could a person buy all the parts/etc that it has, plus the interior and paint, then have it put together for the selling price?
    I don’t think so.
Could a person do it themself?

Sure, but how long would it take? Keep in mind paint and interior.

There is a few reasons things sell for more than the “I can do it all for less” guys, main one is they can’t do it all, and they want it now.
    Okay, two reasons…

Along the lines of what I mentioned above.

I met a nice HAMB’r when I picked up an engine from him.
We BS’d a bit, I said “if I could pay to have it all done, I’d do it and drive it”

He said “Naw, I like doing it all myself”

    @HSF , recall that?

Basically if we both had the $$, he’d do it himself anyways, me? I’d bail and write the check;)

Just my Opinion the Roadster has a narrow build style in what most are looking for ,
Parting out more likely time .
The Project X 57 clone I think 2 yrs to sell off parts , I think a mouth or so on his last post he was afew hundred to good .

I do remember that and it still holds true. I don't do as much as I can myself to save money necessarily. I like the challenges building a car or bike or whatever it is I'm doing, the learning I guess. I have a tough time buying a running car let alone a finished one, haha

  15. The ad says it is registered as a 32 Ford. I too like a lot of the aspects of the model A over the 32, but in my local there is a pretty substantial difference in price/value.

It’s a possibility you didn’t look closely at the avatar and did not notice that it is not a Ford.
The narrowed Pontiac rear end and the Tex T-101 Transmission are worth way more than the $500 I paid for the car in 1981.

I really doubt you'd buy that car for $32,500 and make money parting it out. I have seen cars that you could make more money parting them out than selling them complete.

    Respectfully and no insult intended
I can not really understand what your saying . You have two Brookfield bodies and a quick change in drivers now there $15,000 cars ????

Even if your getting used parts at half price there is still over $15,000 to build that car based on a undamaged new Brookfield body and the ch***is and drive train . you haven't even touched paint and interior wiring , fuel system , tires and wheels cooling system and grill and such .

Can you build a on a 32 rails for $15,000 from swap meet and used parts after collecting them for years ?? Sure its possible but its not going to have a new or rebuilt quick change and all really nice stuff and its going to take a LOT of labor and time to find and build it .

A quick look in the cl***ifieds here shows several A's on 32 frames and there all over $25,000 and on up . When a rough original A roadster is selling for $10,000 these days if it will start and drive on a trailer another $5000 is not going to get you to what this car is .

Id like to see some pics of the cars you have in the $15,000 range and if you would actually sell ne for that .

Ill have about $4,000 in a Model A PU channeled on A rails with a quick change and a 331 hemi but it took me 30 years to collect all the parts and walking about 500 miles dragging a red wagon round at swap meets and driving to newspaper then craigslist and now market place ads. If I spread out the parts at swap meet today id be needing about $15,000 for everything id have for that project .

Id wager with no body on the frame , the running gear ( Quick change ) and powertrain would bring close to the $15,000 your saying if a body could be just dropped on it . then you need a radiator , grill , interior , that Windshiled frame is not cheap , wiring and lighting and paint .

Show me any comparable car like that for $15,000 and id be in a rush to buy it.

I grew in up CA as well .

A big part of the price of any rod or custom is who built it. I would say the seller had more than the selling price in it, being built by a reputable builder. If you want to try to make money parting out cars, you are in the wrong price range. Start with a $2000 car. You might get lucky and get $3000. On the other hand, if you’re like me, you might walk away with $750.

  22. Buy high, sell low, make it up on volume seems to be my mantra... LOL

with that particular car, the obvious thing to do would be to start with selling those unusual headlights, and if you could get a couple of dollars out of them, maybe that would give you the confidence to carry on………wheels could go next ………

    IMG_1662.png IMG_1663.png

such a beautiful finished hot rod, - probably best left as it is….………….

IF it had an ARDUN, quick change, Lenco, magnesium wheels, big SCoT supercharger...I would hit my safe and go fetch the car hauler. Like some have said on this thread, hot rods (well some) are greater than a sum of their parts. But dialing for dollars by parting out a finished car looking to make a profit? You better be buying it for pennies on the dollar.

Those E&J lights can fetch $2500-$3000. Not from me but...

  27. Yeah, I just don't get the fascination with those... At least these aren't the ones that look like cabin lights stolen off a 18th century sailing ship.

i bought my 32 axle from a guy in the late 70's. he had a 32 coupe he parted out shortly after American Graffiti came out, as there was a surge in demand then. Still selling parts from it what 7 years later? can you wait that long to get
your price for specific parts? I am seeing the demand for our vehicles decline, prices falling.

A painted, full interior and running car would be a shame to part it out. If you want to make a buck, trying selling it for more. Don't part it out. As others have said, dealing with flakes gets old quick. Unless you have an engine cradle and are willing to have the motor running in it for a someone to inspect, don't expect big buck for the engine. I've looked at too many "rebuilt" or was "running" flathead to count and they were all just used cores sitting on a garage floor.
