I'm out of my old stock oil filters for my higher performance Chevy V8's. The Napa Gold 1060 and the Wix 51060 are both Asian made now, any problems ? What about an AC Delco, which one, there seems to be a few variations ? I need to change oil in several cars so I would be buying by the case most likely.
I picked up some Puralator filters for my OHV mower engine. Looking inside and if the box is to be believed, they look well built and are US made.
We use nothing but WIX ( Napa Gold ) at work for a fleet of work trucks and vans, we have never had an issue with them. We go through a case every month.
Being retired from NAPA all I ever used were the Gold filters in all of my cars and never had any problems with them, more than I can say about all the troubles my right foot created
It seams the new stuff has a red seal on top instead of black and red is proned to leaking according to the research. Also something with return hole pressures or something. I just don't want to unknowingly buy a case of ****py filters that turn out to be not so good.
It's for the transport across the open sea from the far away Asian land, no kidding, it's one of the ways to know you have a foreign made filter.
NAPA Gold haven't been WIX for at least a couple of years. In the post in this link I photographed a WIX-built NAPA Gold filter and the new NAPA Gold. Fram & Autolite belly up?
I haven't exhausted my stock of old NAPA Gold 1060/1061 filters so haven't purchased any new ones, but the 7060's that I got for my daily were noticeably poorer quality than the WIX-built ones. See photos at the link in my previous reply just above this one. It's hard to see but the byp*** spring is haphazardly spot welded, the crimps are tiny, the gasket and flow holes are different, even the louvers inside are much different. I don't have faith in the new filters.
I really like the K&N filters, they have served me well. I put my filters on fairly tight, and I like the hex on the bottom to help break them free. Makes it easy to remove.
To confuse things even more, Purolator filters can be made either in USA or overseas depending on the demand Here's a video dissecting both versions for a comparison
I guess I'm one of the few when it comes to oil filters. I just buy a quality filter and put it on. Too many variables anymore to sit and chase brands/names for me. Big brands are doing anything to reduce production costs and increase profits including countries of production, cheaper internal components etc. And the thing is it's constantly changing. So what's made in this country today is made overseas tomorrow, the components used today is changed tomorrow and there is no announcement made in the newspaper, no sheet in the box informing us of those changes. I watched a video not to long ago of different oils that they ran all kinds of different tests on and not surprising, at least to me, was cheap walmart oil ranked up there with some of the best oils. I've pretty much always ran valvoline oil for years and still do but I can't say I do it because it's the best but I will say I do it because it's a habit I started many many years ago... ..
