Customs Skirts or no skirts? Custom 53 F100

I know a lot of people don't like skirts on trucks and for the most part, neither do I but I'm 50/50 if I like them.

I kinda think they work on this one but I'm trying to decide if it is worth cutting up a pretty rare pair of skirts to fit.
The original builder did his thing and the rear wheel openings are no longer factory shaped. Also, the front of the fenders were cut down so I will need to pie cut the skirts along with reshaping the rear top corners so they fit the opening (last picture).

So what do you think, no skirts and continue hunting for 3 more of what seems to be the rarest 1960's aftermarket hubcaps in the world (or find different caps to run) or just start cutting up these skirts to make them fit?

 

If is a custom skirts me in particular I wouldn't put them on

 

I say yes, I absolutely love skirts on Trucks, Go for it.

 

I am the opposite and think skirts have no place on a truck so I say no.

Rear wheel opening shows way too much tire for a lowered custom. The skirts will look great on that type of build.

I remember all the F100 customs during the later 50s and early 60s model building and also rod magazines of that era. Some that don't remember how popular the F100 indoor show customs were, might not feel the skirts belong.

 

I don’t usually like skirts on trucks either but that looks good.
Can you make Kustom skirts or cut up some new ones?

Early 60's indoor show truck is what I'm shooting for. The truck was built in 2001 and other than a few easily fixed things, came pretty close to that style.

Skirt were not really a big thing on any '60's customs especially trucks.

 

Not that an opinion matters from a guy who drives a rusty old POS but hard no.

 

Might build or find skirts for my 49 gmc.
Would look good with the Fulton.

If you decide to use them I would fit them to every contour with percussion. You don’t want them to appear like they were an afterthought but part of the original design.

 

It's pretty heavily modified, so why not? And, the more people that say no, the more you should want to do it.

@oldiron 440 is correct, that you need ( or should ) make them integrated with the rest of it.
I think the word he may have meant is precision.
Easy to make a truck look awkward.

If the rear fenders were less bulky I'd say they'd work. But in my scrambled mind there's already too much metal back there

I am 100% behind this, too many boring trucks out there.

That said, it looks killer no matter what you do!!!

 

Pickups with skirts...a hard no.
After seeing the pictures, your truck has the "look" of an early custom, which in that case would seem appropriate.
Personally, appropriate or not, I wouldn't run them.

 

I am leaning towards "No". I think with the white wall tire gives your eye a brake from all the red. I think it ties in the contrast with the roof.

Unsolicited feedback is the front wheel covers aren't my favorite. But it's your truck enjoy how you see fit.

I'm not a skirts on a truck guy, but man they look pretty good to me. Gotta paint to match of course.... But I surprise myself by liking them...

Personally I'd say that Truck begs for them. Only because the builder raised the rear fenders a bit too far. That said because the opening is higher than the Front fender opening thus showing to much tire. Now that's just a personal observation. I'm very much aware how rare those skirts are. I also notice they don't fit the fender very well. There's a window in the top right corner.

My personal decision would be to hand build my own skirts so the very bottom of the skirt isn't below the bottom of the fender itself and redo that lip so it fits the Tire dia on both sides and has the proper rise to it. Things that are modified need to look correct from 20 feet away, not 2 steps back from it.
