My kid has a 2019 Impreza. It’s white and has a “sparkle/metallic” in it. She was hit on the side and it was resprayed and the shop nailed it. It’s like you mentioned, when the light hits it right, you can see the glimmer in it.

 

Panels in 400. Smooth as a gravy sandwich like Mark says.

I adapted my body roller to hold them where I can shoot em easy. . And no, I didn’t screw them on, there are mounting holes in the bottom so it just slips over the wood screws for easy hanging.

I’ll seal and base coat them both in the morning as soon as the Shop hits 70 degrees. Then the fun part.

I need a shower.

 

I have a test panel set up to test the red and blue. Yes silver is a given

 

Like putting model cars together as a kid, only looked at the directions if there was some kind of "failure to communicate".

 

Reading the directions adds valuable time to any project. I can’t understand most of them anyway.

 

I am planning on using my jamb gun on the candy red and the transparent blue, it has a nice tight pattern and those areas won't require a lot of paint so the small cup should be fine. I have a good base gun for the sealer and silver base, Iwata for the clear coats. I would really like to not have to cut and polish this. I figured hanging them will help in keeping dirt out.

I wish they were hanging right side up for ease of laying out the flag. I just came up with an idea on that. After I base them, I could remove the top 2x4 and move it down the uprights, mount the 2x4s wide side horizontal (toenail it) and use a bungie cord between the two panels on top to hold them upright. I need to go buy a couple short bungies. Having them upright would aid laying out my pattern. I could do it with them laying down but it's much harder to see what I am doing, and upside-down sounds like something Roth would do after reading @Ryan 's post about his website.

Nice as long as you keep it sealed! My buddies dribble all over the place when they stop by...and their cars are worse. 20 years here and I don't have oil stains on my drive, and I own a flathead and an Olds! Drippy sum*****es! That damn olds would drip oil in the middle of Antarctica with the crankcase empty!

When I had the urinal installed she said it disgusting. I asked if she preferred the guys using the house baths or "watering" her yard and she warmed to the idea.

 

I thought about those pics all night and I was about to ask you if you put the silver flaks down first and shot transparent colors over the top. I went back and re-read (I'm not sure I read it the first time as I was consumed by the pics), and now I see that is how you did that. So you put just enough clear to bury the flakes and sand it and that also allows for the masking of the pattern. I like this.

 

Time for an update, ya think? Panels flaked, cleared and wet sanded to 400
Today I cut out dozens of stars. They look traditional but they are “In motion” weaving in the breeze. Some are left oriented and some are right. They were a PITA to draw and cut out

Here’s the lay out.

I motor imaged the flag on the other side, both leads with blue and tail with stripes.

this evening I covered the panels and prepared to spray the transparent blue over my stars.

to my pleasant surprise the making paper held beautifully. I was careful to time the removal of the masking paper carefully, exactly one crown and diet (short gl***). They came out perfect!

All masking removed and ready to tape off the silver and blue and lay down the candy red tomorrow. It’s going to be warm so I need to get out there early. I put a lot of motion in the stripes so they are going to be a pain to mask.

 

Thanks for putting up with the calls mate. Outside my comfort zone but catching up.

Now...how the hell do I get all the metal fake off my garage floor?

I would be worried about the shoe traffic transfer into the house... that stuff gets everywhere.

I found some flake in the master bath today. That is a long way from the garage. My wife made me strip naked in the back yard and took my paint clothes to the “Bandit washer”. The machines she keeps in the dailies garage so her stuff doesn’t end up with garage filthy (and glitter evidently).
