Yes trying to keep everything tucked up best I can. The only thing that will probably be visually from the side is exhaust
Your work is fabulous Where do you get your inspiration for the design ideas and where did you learn to fabricate?
I think in functionality first and what I think is feasible then just start cutting. I’m mostly self taught, with great advice along the way. I have never had very much money to be able to buy things which means learning how to make it yourself. It’s a blessing in disguise I guess
If you never had training, I believe the proper term is Prodigy. Your not a child by any means but you are young enough.
I dont know about that haha i think Im just willing to try harder then most to make something happen if i want it. I have been self employed for the past 7 years, but in and right out of highschool i worked in a few autobody shops and then a hotrod shop but on the paint and body side. I can pick up alot just by watching what others are doing and someone of those guys gave me good tips to get started fabricating on my own and have been doing it everyday ever since.
So last week I decided it was time to start getting stuff powder coated and polished. I broke down the whole car over the weekend and everything ch***is related is getting finished right now. there was a few things I did before I stripped the car that I have progress photos of but nothing to big of a deal. Had to make lower mounts for the radiator shell to fit the shortened 1” Johnson radiator. Added a bar between the head light mounts and some minor details in the frame. That means the next photos I post will be a finished rolling ch***is! Can’t wait!
Thanks! That’s my primary business building early Harley’s and parts for them. Hey, I grew up in Toowoomba
Just read this whole thread. Great work with clean creative solutions, makes me want to do better by my roadster and be less hammer and chisel .
I have some photos of random things i did before i tore the car down ill share while i wait for all my powdercoat and polishing. Here is the headlight bar i added to the existing mounts. I ended up lowering the stanchions close to an inch as well as brought them outward a touch before i did the bar.
I also did a few modifications to the grill shell so i can get it painted. Its repop so i dont care about cutting into it. Since i have a 1" chopped radiator, and it doesnt fit quite right to the radiator anyways being thicker I chopped the bottom to get it down lower to match. I made some new lower mounts in a style i think looks like it could have been factory Fully mounted with headlights in position on the new bar
Was thinking about the headlight wires, I like them disappearing into the shell so i made some little pockets for the wires the p*** through.
Prepped all the leafs before powdercoatings, beveled and tapered each end. Is slip plate graphite still the best for inbetween the leafs when re***embled?
The banjo I have was out of a running car and im debating weather or not to rebuild it now. I wanted to drive it with the gears in it now and see if I want to change. I dont have any of the tools to do it myself and i cant see myself doing it enough to get them. Has anyone in my area used a shop to have your banjo rebuilt that could give me any reccomendations?
No shop recommendations for ua but Man great progress update! I’m Curious how you went about making the headlight p*** through on the grill shell. Looks slick!
Chugging along! I love what you did with the bottom of the body, thats been my plan for my 30 roadster on 32 rails as well. Really killer build man!
