Does anyone have photos of how this is done to get it ready for a T5? My searches have come up pretty thin.
I don’t have any photos but basically it will be like splitting the earlier, spring over wishbones, cut the ‘bone to remove the forging at the back and weld on new bungs for early Ford tie rod ends. Next buy or fabricate frame brackets to accept the new ends on the split ‘bone and lastly you will need to heat and twist the shackle mounts on the front of the ‘bones so they are perpendicular to the front axle so the front spring can be remounted. Keep in mind your frame mounts will be used to set the caster.
I put a t5 in my 40 with the stock wish bone. put a small spacer on the ball mount and a little trim on the case. if I remember right magnum was the only drop axle for a stock 40
Check 40RagtopDown on here. He makes a great center x kit with or without wishbone splitting tabs. I've sent him several customers that bought my T5 kit and they were all happy with his products.
I also used his kits. the last one is on my '41 pickup install of the T170 transmission without splitting the wish bone.
