You're probably right that it was a temporary closure. I know it was detoured last week when I was there.
280 is still closed down and apparently will be all summer, but that might be less of an issue.
For the folks going from the registration motel on Gramsie Road to the fairgrounds, I've always gritted my teeth and endured 35W south for a few miles then exited south on Cleveland. Gives you options: At Larpenteur, hang a left and then you have a right turn into the north (Hoyt Av) gate; or follow Cleveland further south and I think the west fairgrounds gate is open for entry at 8 or go all the way to Como, go east and take the south entry gate off Como. That route seems to at least avoid some of the tie-ups you get on Snelling.
I didn't register this year but might do a day trip Sat or Sun. and spectate. Haven't been to the Sunday swap meet in years, is it worth attending?

I am typically looking for oddball car parts and what not, but it seems to be a lot of people selling decor, toys, and what not for the past few years.

I don't try to get there when gates open, though, so maybe I miss all of the good stuff?

In my opinion, I wouldn't try to get there just for the swap meet, but we are there anyway, so we'll most likely walk thru.

 

Unfortunately most swap meets have gone from car parts to weed wackers, snow blowers and bad furniture, with a whole bunch of matchbox cars thrown in.

 

Kinda what I was thinking, If I wind up there on Sunday I'll probably do the same.

Yeh, that's why I was wondering. Others have said the same thing. The fall Roadsters swap is still about the best one in our area. If I do go on Sunday I might check the swap meet out anyway.

I've had good luck at the Spring Buick club swap as well. It helps that I am specifically looking for Buick parts, I suppose.

 

Does anyone know if the north end of the fairgrounds got hail? I left about 4pm and live about a mile and a half straight east of the north end of the fairgrounds. at about 5:30 I got 1" hail for about 5 minutes at my house.

I left a little before 4 to try to get out ahead of rush hour traffic. I got a call later from a friend who was near, but not on the fairgrounds. He said that there was so much hail that the road was covered and it looked like a snowstorm. He also said it was quarter sized, I sure hope that it didn’t hit the fairgrounds…

 

any pics of the cars there yet?

 

We were back at the hotel in Roseville, and got 15 minutes of quarter sized hail.

I just spoke with someone who was at the fairgrounds, and he said 10 seconds of one inch, then a minute or so of time size.
I showed him my video, and he said we had way more here.

 

We three sat on a side residential street under large trees for at least 15 minutes while quarter sized hail pounded us. Totally covered the streets.

We were half mile north of the fairgrounds.

 

This ain’t no Shivvy. It would take a baseball to dent the steel of a 32 Ford.

 

I was with Alchemy with my 57 Ford wagon and I don't think I have any damage. But I do have sap all over from the shredded pine tree I was under. Note to self... never take shelter under a pine in a hailstorm, find an oak or maple.

My son drove your old yellow PU. There's already plenty of dings and dents on it that if it got any damage we'd never know.
