My 51 Ford came with an aftermarket remote spin on oil filter setup, it connects to the rear corner of the block just below the oil pressure sending unit. I replaced the sending unit with a mechanical gauge hookup, it reads no oil pressure, in fact I don't see any oil in that clear plastic tube at all. Is something hooked up wrong ?
Some times will get air locked , Crack line fitting to bleed & make sure when you tighten you did over tight , or crooked & not pinch the Farrell or line off Check both farrels. Usually you just snug tight
If it read pressure before then it should do the same now. If the gauge never registered pressure at all then it means that the drill and plug method was used for the filter conversion and you won’t have pressure available at the original location as the oil’s travel path was altered to force it through the new filter before returning to the main gallery.
When you do see oil in that clear plastic line, replace it with a copper line! They tend to get brittle after time and crack and leave oil everywhere, especially under the dash!
When you say drill and plug, are you referring to a restricter? I seem to recall that needing to be done.
No, you drill and tap a return port into the original oil gallery farther up on the bellhousing area, then you block off the gallery p***age between the original oil filter port and the new hole with a pipe plug. This forces oil to go from the pump to the new filter and then back to the block via the new hole you drilled and tapped, you are byp***ing the Ford designed oil gallery. There are tons of vids on YouTube showing the process, it is kind of hard to visualize sometimes unless you have a block in front of you. This mod makes it so you filter over 90% of the oil leaving the pump rather than 30% or so with the standard Ford cartridge. In regard to this post, depending how they blocked the gallery if indeed this mod was done could have cut off pressure to the sending unit.
Confusing. Did it read before? If it read before and doesn't after addition, I'd be looking around more before driving.
