Technical Newer Grey colors on a 32 roadster

I have a 32 roadster..It will be fenderless with a hood and sides.. the car is in primer .I can't decide on colors .im not a flashy guy.. I want to run tasteful black scallops on the nose ..im considering going a Grey ..like the toyota cement or the Chrysler anvil Grey..then I looked at the harbor gret color of the 40s ford.. i dont want a metallic in it...GIVE ME SOME OF YOUR OPINONS ON GREY.. I will be running 16 black steel wheels on the car or may choose to paint then as well ..

 

Here is a car I built and painted at work that is 37 Ford gray.

I was at a car show several years ago, there was a restored 56 GMC pickup in a grey with a slight green tone. The owner believed it was an original colour but I've never been able to find any info showing a factory grey. Always thought it would be a neat color on a roadster.

 

Is it grey or is it gray?

 

Dove gray always looked good to me.

If one goes window shopping at various dealer lots, there are lots of dark color cars. But, the ones that stand out are the light grey color cars in plain grey or ones with a slight metallic that you cannot see unless close up for detailing. The two colors of grey above are from the foreign car lots.

But, below was a light grey color on a 32 roadster that was created by a custom shop in the USA.

With different wheels being the owner’s choice or the color match with the body.

The wheels could be in a similar body color or a dark color to go stealth or at***ude stance...YRMV

or some great looking American Racing Equipment 5 spoke rims… of the appropriate size...


The new metallic colors are a little more lively and don't show any flake...

 

I hate those Grey colors... Maybe cuz I was in the Navy and ships were all painted "Haze Gray" Just my opinion...

 

Welp, the next car I build and paint to please others, will be the first. That's why there is a rainbow of colors to choose from, just my opinion and yes I built and painted one gray and liked it.

 

I usually walk past the red ones
Unless the grey has a flake in it, I don’t consider it a modern color.
All car manufactures have used grey
New grey cars look like new cars with a vintage color.

I'm a fan of the new gray colors (no metallics). They look retro to me and would be right at home on a pre '50s car. I'm planning to use that color on a future build. I've seen several that I like. Not every Deuce roadster has to be red. I also walk right past the red ones.

 

Put me down as another positive vote for solid grey and gray. Two tone gray/grey and white is a good combination. Cl***ic look IMO. Red is a great color to paint some else’s ride.

 

It seems we as a society have become more drawn to muted colors on our cars. I’m no exception, don’t know why.
The grey roadster that BJR built is timeless and the color used is cl***ic. As much as I like some of the modern greys, it’s my opinion that because they come from a our current point of time they will probably look dated in the future when the new trend for color comes along.

 

I like subtle more than Easter egg, but grey just doesn’t do much for me.
So I’m in the “Yeah…no” camp.
That said, nothing we say should matter to you as it’s your car and your vision.

 

I heard there are 50 shades.

 

If you look at today's parking lot at the grocery store or shopping mall, what color are the vast majority of late model daily drivers?
It's a short list.
Grey many, many
Silver quite a few
White not too many
Black some
All the rest of the color pallet-mostly ignored, by the manufacturers and the buyers.

I'm not sure what that says about color trends for hot rods. Grey, black and yes, red, appear to be somewhat timeless.
Some blue, green, yellow/beige tones border on timeless.

Just be sure to pick something YOU really like. Hopefully you will choose something you can enjoy for a long time.

 

I appreciate all the comments ..I realize grey isn't for everyone and that great to.. thats why there are aton of colors. My car was yellow and some guys love it i absolutely hate it..lol...Thank you for the replys

 

Gray is fine, black scallops, nope. But like Mark say’s, that’s just me.

Ford has a color called avalanche Grey might good with that still looking though....

 

I guess I am a little prejudiced since the car (see the Avatar) that I built over fifty years ago is dark gray and silver although the metallic silver has patina'd to gray. Gray is OK, Grey might even be better

 

Don't you guys want to match your car to your hair color?

 

Vwey honestly the best thing is to just go out to the car lots where newer cars are and look for gray cars and trucks until you find "thee one" There are a lot of non metallic grays out there that would look great on a hot rod.

The Red on my 48 in my Avator is Porsche Indiana red. We (my wife and I ) cruised car lots both in the day time and at night before we found the red that looked good in the day time and at night under the lights.
