I have about eight four-drawer file cabinets holding my magazine collection. Only missing about four issues of Hot Rod, one R&C, and very few other early mags. I stopped the early collection around 1970 for HRM, but I do have mostly complete sets of magazines from the modern era.

Lemme get this straight, you’ve got twenty years worth of old hot rod magazines in six storage bins and you’re saying you’ve got issues? Hehe

 

Now with print media going the way of the dinosaurs, it's even more important that we save these historical do***ents.

 

My first thought is those aren't big enough for everything, but I'm thinking of all the post 65 mags I've got, too. A full run of Street Rodder which I've got is a big pile. I've got the majority of little mags dating back to the earliest Hop Up, plus full R&C little, missing only one, I think. I've got somewhere in storage a big box of big Hop Up and Motor Life that I misplaced after I bought them on Ebay. Those are gold, too. Need to find them! My favorites are all the East Coast mags from the 50s and 60s.
I guess if we leave out the later mags, they could all fit. Either way, they are priceless to me.

 

To set Marks' @Moriarity mind to rest I should have noticed the pre-66 date that Ryan posted, a large part of my 65/earlier magazines were hand me downs and some came to me in less than collectable condition, some without covers, some missing pages.
I started getting them from my pals' older brothers about 1967 while in grade school, as I got closer to actual driving age they definitely got plenty of use, so they were really destined to be recycled, was able to pull a few as they were getting loaded up.
It did take a couple of dry runs at sorting with little success, was still painful to do but was caught at a point in life where the spark had gone out carwise and Spring Cleaning Happens, I'm better now!

I have a bin of early hotrod mags i need to organize and get binders for.

 

That's the great thing about old magazines, the beat up ones read just as well as the ones in mint condition. Most of the old mags in my collection were pretty ratty when I got them, after being re-read a million more times they're even rattier.

 

Is their a dollar value to a copy of the little books.

When they closed the Petersen Archives in the 90s the librarian had been there since my friends dad worked on Sports Car Graphic in the 60s. He called and let him in to pick through the stuff before it was open to all the employees. I went along and we ended up with 5 paper boxes full of stuff. Multiple unopened issues of many issues.

 

I got these from Ikea - easier than the binders to grab one issue to take to the bathroom and read.

They also have a lot of shelf choices - I got one that holds about 40 of the boxes and has a couple drawers.

 

All of mine were taken away by my high school teachers for reading them in cl***.

 

I made a huge mistake when I didn't put all of mine in the plastic 55 gallon drums with lids that sealed that I had an unlimited supply for the taking at the time and most all of my collection from 1958 on are ruined.
