Projects Mid Life Crisis 62 Vette

Today drove from Elgin to western NY. Fun drive, started out on the toll roads early in the morning, then switched over to the two lanes. A bit chilly until afternoon.

Car is working well, been getting 21 mpg or so.

Your trips are awesome, and your do***entation of your trips is awesome. I am a firm believer in use it or lose it when it comes to life and aging and you are getting it done! Get going!!!

(that primer patch on the fender always drives me crazy….) I know you have said you have no plans to fix it.

21mpg on the ol Vette? that is Kool. You put the 5 speed in as I recall?. Greased the front suspension too.

 

I spent the night at a friend's place on Silver Lake. We went for a ride in his boat, too. I'm headed to York, ME now, via Albany. Then I plan to head down towards RI.

Light rain this morning in places, and it is in the 50s, but I have the top down and the heater on.

 

You ever need a bed in Michigan Hmu....

 

When in Indiana, get the tenderloin sandwich. Ivanhoe in Upland is my favorite, great onion rings and ice cream too.

 

I love Maine, beautiful state. Some of the best lobster I ever had was a sandwich at a food truck. Some great roads to drive.

Thanks! I'll make a mental note of Ivanhoe's. The tenderloin is the Official State Sammidge of Indiana.

 

We stay about a mile away from Ivanhoes during the James Dean/Ducktail Run. Love that place. Be glad when they get the road work done.

 

I made it to Maine, did a little sightseeing in Kittery. Now I'm down in MA, on my way to RI. Lots of traffic in the way.

funny you should mention the cruise, my friend has his name on one of the parking spots there! He took me to the Italian buffet, it was great!

Hit a little bit of sprinkly rain, but no problem at speed. I expect to get drenched here in the morning, but I'll probably leave late to avoid most of it.

I replaced the rears this year, the fronts are getting thin on this trip.

 

How often do you grease front wheel bearings? Just thinking about what to do before my next trip.

 

I don't know...usually once a year? I should do it every 10k miles, but I think the last time was before my trip last August. I should check! oops

 

You should do Bellvue Ave and Ocean Drive in Newport Rhode Island. Audrain auto museum is there and pretty cool.

Agreed. Newport is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, great seafood too.

Not necessarily a "connecticut" thing, but Bears Smokehouse BBQ in Hartford is pretty good.

You could try Louis' Lunch in New Haven. The birthplace of the hamburger sandwich. (Do NOT ask for ketchup...)

 

Heh I ate my peanut ****er sandwich for lunch, on the hood of the vette.

I spent an hour on a historic tour of Mark Twains house.

 

Traveling incognito. A cross country trek in an old car with some well-earned honest patina. Chips in the paint. A blotch of primer on one fender. A non-matching set of mag wheels. Blackwall tires only on the front. Whitewalls on the rear. If the whole rig wasn't painted "Arrest Me Red" nobody would give you a second glance.
