  8. Looks kinda cool, but kind of like a giant toy car. I'd hate to see what it looks like after a seagull takes a dump on it.

Nice metalwork though for sure! I wonder how they made the seams, tig welded?

You could probably get that kind of a look with that new "chrome paint" that's some sort of silver mirroring compound sprayed over polished black, and then spray some pinkish tinted clear or candy over that.

I guess some rich guy will buy that and put it up on his trophy shelf.

If I remember right, and I really wasn't paying that much attention, this one was built by Kirkham also. I thought the flames were interesting.

I can surely appreciate the craftsmanship thet goes into something like that. but if it does not look good when you are done why bother?

maybe it's a calling card for his business

I wonder how paint would stick to copper?

Is it just me, or does that bloated '40 look like it's retaining a lot of water? Saw it in person and wasn't impressed. Reminded me of those Volkswagens made out of wrought iron in the 70's. I didn't see one line or curve that was true to a real '40 Ford- and it wasn't as smooth in person as the pictures make it look. It's a roadside attraction at best. "SEE the MARVELOUS COPPER CAR- 4 miles ahead at offramp 97"- :p

  12. Metalfinish? - I have enough trouble trying to metalstart...

Lots of owrk but I'm not that floored by the result. The question "Why?" keeps coming to the forefront.

    ABSOLUTLY AUESOME...!

polishing it was not the trick here, it was the plainishing & wheel work followed by sanding the blends in to perfection.

unreal......... - see, you don't need no stinkin paint...!

    man, what a tough crowd!

i can see slamming the work of the guy who carved a kaiser out of bondo, but dissing a scratch built body because the lines don't exactly match an original, or because you don't like the finish? geezus howard christ.

i think posts talking shit about anybodys work must require pics of the whiners better work.

of all the skills i've learned building cars, the most satisfying is banging out body panels from scratch. i still have a ton to learn and do, but i'll be damned if i'll talk shit about work that nice.

    Hey,

Does anyone know, were these made in the Chek Republic
like the other aluminum Cobra bodies? Built in a former MIG
fighter plant, or so legend has it.
The Ford Motor Company built a'36 Ford and one or two '66
Lincolns in stainless steel. I'd rather beat and wheel copper than
    stainless any day.

  25. i can appreciate the craftsmanship and all...but hey; look on the bright side....if its left alone....in about 10 years and a wheel/tire swap it, it COULD pass for a barn find !

    Poland. close enough!

the builder, or at least the U.S. end of things, is Kirkham Motorsports. i really don't know much, if they farm out the work, are all the same company, or what. i found the ebay link from a few months ago when they sold the aluminum prototype body for the 40 ford.

my night(day, whatever, the one that makes me money!) job is working with stainless and titanium. after dealing with that shit, i will never ever complain about working with common metals like steel or copper!

Is there any way that body could just be plated? Maybe there is some easy way to tell, and I just can't. They had that copper bike on American Chopper and it was just an everyday metal bike that they dipped at the platers.

The Polish company also builds aluminum Willys bodies.
