Good god man; lose the fenders? Are you mad? After making sure everything works. Paint the cowl to match, moon discs on the steel rims & most important: brake light on p***enger side. Maybe disc brakes up front for modern safety. & drive it
Man that’s a good one! The red reminds me of Brian B***’s red 32. I think I’d have to chop the windshield, play with the dash and interior, little adjustments and you’d have a real bruiser. stick some of the bell tip scavengers I’ve got sitting in the garage under the back….
Heck, I would hose it off, get it running and drive around with a "possum eatin' briers" look on my face! HRP
If you don't follow what those early Corvette fuel injection units are worth, get ready to be shocked.
It's a great find. Looks like it drove right out of an early 60's Popular Hot Rodding magazine. I'd basically leave it as is. I agree on painting the cowl (wonder what the story is on it not being painted?), lower it 3", get it running and drive it everywhere. Re WW46; I'd sell off the FI which would fund going through the rebuild-all the mechanicals (clutch, brakes, etc.) and install a period correct intake/4 barrel/air cleaner. Looks like someone dropped a school bus seat in it? Would love to run the block/head #'s. Praying it's a 4 speed not a 3 speed. So thankful it's been rescued from mothballs and made available to a worthy owner.
What's your vision for this car Joey? Mine would be to try to visualize the previous owners direction. Finish the cowl, add some moon caps and dress up the interior with tuck and roll and some clean door panels.
Yeah, I don't see changing much, paint the cowl, some nice 60s style ****on tuck, and realistically, unload the FI unit to fund the rest.
The FI unit is uber cool and period correct. They're a ***** to get running right but a full rebuild on it and they work perfectly. They're not worth too much unrestored, but restored correctly are very spendy. I have a friend who specializes in C1 Vette's and he has a shelf full of units he's restored. He sells them one by one and swears by them. Has one in his '58 Impala and it's awesome. I think it fits the car great. Andy
^^^My pal the C1 Vette guy likes to prowl the swap meets for them. He has picked them up for as little as $3500. Sometimes they are missing a few parts or they are "mixed and matched" with parts from different years on them. He brings them up to snuff and uses parts from his extensive inventory to make them correct for the year that the units are and sells them (or tries to) north of 10K. I hooked him up with a guy that was selling one on here not too long ago as he doesn't really spend a lot of time online. Andy
I hate the idea of anyone getting this and changing it all around. Don't buy a survivor unless you want to keep it that way. I mean, I'd be fine getting rid of that ****y bowtie sticker on the dash and that hideous alternator setup but those are clearly later additions that really stick out. Paint the cowl and more interior finishing I'd be cool with too, since that's not really changing anything, just finishing it. But what a shame it would be for this to fall into the hands of someone who'd change it all around after staying so intact for all these years.
Hello, As a find from that time period, I would leave the outside overall looks. Yes, perhaps a lower front end for a slight rake. Different tires and wheels and of course a touch up body work. Having ridden in several open roadsters, that seat may be comfortable with it being so puffy, but a new set of bucket seats or at least remodeled bench seat at a lower level and better cushioning. Now, the occupants would not be sitting above the windshield height during cruising down the road. As far as the motor, I would take off the F.I. system and sell it to someone who wants one to work on his/her own project. Dual carbs are more in line with open roadsters powered by SBC motors. If one wants the Corvette ribbed valve covers, they would go with the matching F.I. system for sale. But, dual quads were also Corvette material during those early 60s times... Jnaki I have always liked Model A Roadsters over 32 roadsters. So, keep the original stylish radiator/grille to keep the stock looks for design parameters and not have a big blob sitting in front. But, I would either put the side hood vents back in place or change over the generator/alternator to a different location. The last changeover would be to put in a Paxton Supercharger for more power. Now, that gives the old roadster a little sparkle for those local cruises along the coastline… And/or stuff a 671 SBC motor with carbs for extra power on the street cruises… YRMV
Definitely looks similar! Headlights, cowl lights, windshield frame, wheels... gas cap... all vary. I see the original post had the license plate blacked out... that could've been the defining moment to match them up! 3blap.
