Technical David Freiburger is building a hot rod

I had the privilege of having him stop by my shop one evening. He came with a mutual friend, didnt make it about himself and was very low key. He almost seemed a little shy. When he was here, he could care less about early hot rods. He was all about my muscle car stuff. The thing I liked about him was that he did not come across as a self absorbed person, and he was just being a guy that wanted to see some cool stuff.

 

Watched it yesterday. I liked it.

 

Yeah, it must rub off!

You only use the plasma cutter or MIG once with sandals on. I had the worse "sun burn" on my feet after using the plasma cutter for a brief moment one day. You can still see the lines.

I don't watch car shows or You Tube channels so I don't have an opinion one way or another on this fellow, but it is good for the hobby, I think.

 

When you say he’s getting help are you talking about physical or mental? Hehe

Just finished watching the video, Sam knows what he's doing and the ch***is looks great. HRP

 

It was interesting that his son appears in the video, he's always kept his personal life and family private. Jimmy does seem like he does know one end of the wrench from the other so that's a good thing.

He's going for a 1970s vibe with the car, so maybe we shouldn't be discussing it?

 

I got a better idea! Move this thread to the "Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs" forum. We are less likely to attract the usual negative comments from the "Richard Head" contingent.

altogether a very positive video for the hobby.
the cast made up of an entertainer/historian/promoter, a hands on hot rod builder and a young person all showing how to build a hot rod on the floor of a typical garage.

must say though the casual approach to ppe is concerning, bare skin and sandles is one thing but the kid grinding/sanding without proper eye protection is not good.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a resurgence in interest in Model A's and hot rods in general from this build series. It sure doesn't hurt having a guy like Sam helping him on this. You know already that's going to be a righteous hot rod.

 

DF is the real deal and definitely not lazy. I’m just glad he’s concentrating efforts on something we like, kinda tired of his Mopar muscle car videos. But I still watch because it’s some of the better automotive content out there.

That's a true story! I bought my avatar out of Vacaville California and talking to the seller he said it had no heater (and still doesn't, although I need to add one for clearing the inside of the windshield in the spring/fall). When I asked him about the wipers, do they work? he had to go check... LOL.

I enjoyed the video, I have met him a couple of times he was always pleasant. Last time I saw his boy he was about 4 riding on his shoulders

 

Yeah, Frieburger is Cool ...... Road Kill Garage is the best show on my free TV. Cept the one where they drove in a volcanic sand storm and left the car there and engine got full of volcanic sand, and the one they drove the 56 chevy up to humbolt ca with solid core spark plug wires and fried a bunch of msd ignition boxes

 

They're all put together with nuts and bolts, and the process really hasn't changed since day 1.

 

I see on Face book he was looking for a Ridge Runner ram of his own .

I have one but I have plans for it . I suspect the fact its on his car and being mentioned just made the price go up more on them .

I'm looking for the Valve covers to go with my manifold .

I have o issue with the guy and he IMO is good for the hobby .

I'll have to admit that I am a bit of a late night youtube addict and am probably sleep depried because of it.

That was certainly not my intent. I see their two bodies of knowledge differently. Magnante seems to be a living encyclopedia of car options, features, etc. Freiburger seems to be more a historian of the aftermarket, and the human history of hot rodding. Just my take.

I was surprised by that too.

 

I’ve only met him once at Drag Week but he has a pattern if you watch his videos whether it’s Engine Masters, Roadkill, Roadkill Garage or is live broadcast of Drag Week he does have a way of p***ing work to his CoHosts. I must admit that I do find him on the arrogant side and possibly that’s what rubs me the wrong way. He does know an Encyclopedias worth a Knowledge about 60 and 70s drag racing. I did enjoy Engine Masters and the approach’s to to making power. I don’t mean to cast a negative shadow on his project it’s just how I see it. His buddy who built the drag car did the majority of the work by the way it looked and should be recognized for it, it’s an excellent piece…
