Projects Bought a 51 Ford on Purpose

Perfect! I would have driven mine to work today but need to get feed and can't haul near as much with the shoebox as needed.

 

Had a similar experience getting directions from my then six year old granddaughter to WalMart, we ended up at the county jail! To her credit WalMart was not too much further ahead but I am still curious how she knew to go to the jail! At nine she is still trying to convince me she knows how to give directions until I remind her of the jail incident.

 

Your love for your family is evident in your posts. I bet if you were driving an extremely uncool vehicle, you would have no issue if your grandson directed you to take the long way to the candy store.

 

Yeh I’m thinking the vehicle is a bonus!

My radiator showed up today. I just need to get it swapped out…again. Hopefully this one lasts a while. I should at minimum have the cooling system flushed out by now.

 

Haven’t changed the radiator yet, but had to go to town with my grandson. So…we had to drive the cool car.

The first time I took my grandson for a ride in my '49 he wanted to know where the ****on was so he could lower his window!!!

 

Lol! My grandson and kids all learned early. But, a co-worker in his early 20’s didn’t know how the other day when I gave him a ride.

 

The first time I took my granddaughter out in my Corvette she asked where was the ****on to make the nitrous spray

 

Got the radiator swapped out. Praying this one cools good and doesn’t leak. I am ready to be driving it again daily. Lately I have only been driving it around town since the radiator leak kept me checking it regularly. Driving it to dinner this evening and then likely to work tomorrow. We had big cold front come through so it isn’t 100 degrees this week…just low 90’s.

 

Seems to run a little cooler around town anyway. I suppose the test will be on the highway in the morning. Nice to be back driving it regularly…I hope.

 

It does appear to run a little cooler. I have no idea what the temperature really is, but it used to show right on the last mark. Oh, and you see I still need to fix the gas gauge and get the speedometer to Rusty for repair too…

 

It runs a little warmer that mine but then again those gauges are for reference and not an exact science kinda like the thermostat for your house.

I bet it feels good to get it out and drive it again!!

 

Take your trusty hand held ray gun with you and shoot the sending unit for the gauge when its hot and running. Should give you a good idea of where your at.

 

Did you get a new one made or another original?

 

Yea, considered that and we have those at my workplace that I could borrow. But, I also figure it is better now and wasn’t a problem before so should be good? Lol

Bought a cheap chinesium one…as much as I hate saying that. Just wasn’t good timing to spend $850 on an original style new one right now with some of the other projects I need to get going. And, I missed driving it to work every day.

 

Figured I would post this pic from in front of the local feed store/hardware store/auto parts store, etc. to keep @lostn51 guessing if I live in a time warp. Needed a couple things yesterday after work from that store.

My youngest son worked there for a little bit. That's actually where someone saw his car parked on the side of the building and asked him about it being in a movie that they were filming in town. That was his claim to fame when he was 16 having his 75 vette roadster in a Hallmark film... lol

 

You bought an inexpensive radiator, that you hope is not cheap(ly built)

 

Oh, I know it is cheaply built. That is why I am keeping my original radiator as well in case I decide to just put it back in after another repair. However, it did somewhat surprise me as far as the "perceived" quality. I just don't expect it to live as long as an original.

I've got a temp gauge with numbers. On a normal day it's just over 180. On really warm days, can get up to just under 200 or so.... Never had it above that.

Haven't been driving it since the smoke arrived. Hopefully that **** starts moving off soon.

Doesn't seem to matter where the radiator was made. I have an off-topic square body I did an LS swap in and decided not to cheap out on the radiator purchased a $1500.00 Michigan USA made radiator and dual fan setup instead of a Chineezium Amazon model that could have been had for $300.00. Trans cooler side of the radiator ruptured and sent antifreeze into my freshly rebuilt 4l60E transmission and took it out. Got nothing but excuses from the company. Had to send it in for them to inspect, they said yup it’s bad, I had to eat the transmission. They repaired it and sent it back, needless to say I put in a new external trans cooler. This experience left me at my DeWitts end if you get my drift.

 

When I built my first shoebox in the early 2000’s I bought an aluminum custom fabbed radiator at the St Louis MO swap meet for $300 from the radiator shop that built them. It was a cross flow with two 1” cores that they said would cool a big block and even though I built the car around the thing it was the best purchase I made. The electric cooling fan went out on it during the summer one time and I had no idea. The car never ran hot with the ac on or after I sprayed the house down with a 600 shot of nitrous and the only way I knew was after an oil change when I was making sure that I didn’t have a leak I noticed that the fan wasn’t running. So I swear by the aluminum radiators and will probably replace the one one my current Tudor whenever I toss the ac on it this winter
