Hot Rods Building a Hot Rod with David Freiburger!

Hi everyone! I haven’t posted since I bought the remnants of the Roach Rod, but my latest project with David Freiburger is something you guys and gals will like. I’m hoping our effort will bring awareness to old hot rods. I feel that with so many people aging out, old hot rods and parts are going to be cheaper than ever… sadly, because of a high supply and low demand which, if the demand gets too low… these things will be headed to the s**** yard. So, check it out and p*** it on to a few friends!

 

I would guess that hanging out and working with Freiburger must be quite an adventure.

By the way, as easy as you drove out those spring perch pins from the axle, they must have already been out before filming began. LOL

Watched the video a couple days ago I thought to myself that mono leaf up front seams dangerous if it snaps David is eating asphalt what's your thoughts on mono leaf springs? Great video by the way.

 

With so many engines D.F. is familiar with, it was cool to see him choose a SBC…and for the most popular reason to choose a SBC!

Do the wishbone slices need any sort of fishplating?

 

I’ve had two in two different cars that get beat on… they’ve held up. You have to make sure they don’t bottom out on the frame by notching the frame.

 

Not that I know of. I’ve never seen anyone fish plate em. Factory they were **** welded.

 

Where do I apply?

 

One of best I road in had a Mono .
There no diffrint mono or Multi spring if it breaks .

Chevy Vs Ford sb engine in A's & 32
Ford driver side issues oil filer , engine mount
Exhaust , ds head back further into stock fire wall , interference using Vega steering box .

So did you two agree on the final pinion angle with just two different ways to get there or was the angle in question ???

The sbc is a no brainer….literally!

 

Very interesting video, I like the cutting, modifying brackets, and placing them correctly on the frame. What it showed, was setting up the ch***is properly and the reasoning behind it. No fancy frame table, a torch, Sawzall, and a drill press, things that are easily acquired these days. Having "No Sham" Sam involved is a real ***et, with all of his experience, he knows how to build on a budget. I applaud you for doing this, just think about all those stock Model A's in Estate sales that could get a second life as a Hotrod, and perhaps getting some younger folks involved as well. Mine came from an Estate Sale, the name on the ***le was Glen Bone. So, I have a real A-Bone !

Hi Mart! We had some great times! I’m pretty sure the Roach Rod and your roadster were the very first build series cars on the HAMB! Do you still have the bee hive oil filter?

 

A great video indeed, very cool that Davids son Jimmy is helping out as well.

 

I have built 3 cars with the mono springs up front and one with the mono springs front and rear, never a problem. HRP

Hey, that garbage bag tire mounting trick was pretty trick !
I might have to try that the next time I'm doing a set, I normally use bondo spreaders to try and save the vintage aluminum rim lips.

 

Trash bag works
In your pic you are taken to much @ a time with your s****s,
You need to only be 1-2 inch from where tire has already below lip .
& in my opinion your safety pieces are too big (long)
Only need to be little wider then s**** , try A piece of Like antifreeze jug material thin

Great video. One of the best on doing it at home. I had two concerns. (1) The use of Helix products. I think the majority of us have heard the horror stories related to Helix. (2) The use of Heim ends instead of bushed ends.

 

Great video, love the detail and tips.
Also enjoyed seeing Gumby getting nailed by the pin.
