Just going through some old photos from Northeast Rod Runs and others in the 70’s. I remember these two Deuce Tudors. They were cool then and would be cool now. So, where are they now?
I would bet they are still around but have probably undergone several rebuilds, you have probably parked beside one of them at one time or another. HRP
Always had a soft spot in my head wondering where the cars from years past are today, particularly those that on occasion turn up in old photos, not to mention those in the magazines of old such as Hot Rod, Rod & Custom etc.
What a difference, mostly young guns in the photos back in the day, now days mostly old codgers such as I gathering around our cars, in some cases the same vehicles upgraded some not, the big difference is a lawn chair, a cane or a scooter provides the needed ***istance to get out & about, but its been a good ride, no complaints only that the subject matter is more about our ailments.
I remember the two blue deuce sedans, frequent attendees at North Jersey Street rod events. And the picture of P. VanIderstine the green tudor just in the picture I believe was Pete's wifes car. Great times.
Here is the '37 Chevy I built and drove daily back in 1975 powered by a Chevy 250, turbo 400, '57 rear end w/3.55 gear, straight axle front, Indian blankets over the stock seats.
The car on the right in the original posters pic ran at the Top Secret Drags in Romulus, NY last September. Pretty sure it was hemi powered and it hauled ***. Photo credit to djtwig, pics pulled from Instagram.
My first Deuce five window build in the late 60’s and six Deuce five window coupes later , my latest. Oh and several other hot rods mixed in those years as well. 79 and still churning them out.
Ran across a 'T' shirt fitting for myself & probably more so for Gary Mussman (Cornhusker Rod & Custom) & others here on the HAMB that reads "Eighty Years Old & Still Building Hot Rods"
I know where this coupe is and also the chick! The coupe I built in the 60’s and sold to a friend and he still has it in Norwalk Ct. The chick I married and still lives with me almost 55 years.
In my early days of hot rodding I used to see a good many T buckets. Now I see very few. I have to wonder what ever happened to them all? i know people who had them and sold them but did they just disappear? Or are they sitting in someone's garage/shop somewhere?
Looking at the dates on the pics makes me look back in my mind to where I was,who I was going out with and what I was driving.
Most of the young guys that I see at cruise nights are into sixties and seventies muscle cars. The cars they own and build are pretty old now and in some cases older than the cars we had back then. A forty Ford back in 1965 was 25 years old. My son's OT Barracuda is 54 years old. I myself always liked the cars of the fifties and have owned and built a bunch over the years. It is nice to see some of these cars are still around. Those sedans are cool. There were quite a few nice cars around when I was a kid and I wonder what happened to most of them. I hate to think they went to the crusher.
Much of it has to do with what the “traditional” hot rod scene has turned into, in the late 1990s early 2000s the hot rod revival was fueled by guys my age who were in out teens to mid 20s early 30s, as a rebellion against the Boyd Coddington tweed and billet street rod fairground power parking nonsense! Now the former Boyd Coddington Kool-Aide drinker have invaded and turned hot rodding and brought the street rod nonsense with them! The sit behind you in a lawn chair in your knee parts and saddles than bloviate about how no one else’s carmeets your standards and how everyone includes the guys in period built their cars wrong! That is way young people are into other mechanical things! I was at an antique engine show two weeks ago there were a fair number of young people working on the engine including a few with steam engines!
I wonder what happened to Jim French's 32 3w? A Connecticut hotrod. Had a jag rear. He was in CSRA. He bought my dads 33 chevy pickup.
Next HERSHEY will be my 58th and I have the 1968 Program. In '68 there were over 250 Model A Ford's listed for the show field. Last Year there were less than 10 Model A's in total. Where the heck did they all go?
