Still working on the 1950 Ford steering box. Cleaning/ hand polishing and painting. I plan on going through the column and painting it also. Too many things getting in the way such as life to put it in a nutshell. Progress is progress!

 

Putting together my friends ‘61 Rochester 4GC as time allows. Ran into the air horn gasket with a couple holes drilled off center. Experience tells me drilling never leaves a clean hole , but I remembered I picked up a leather punch (?) at a garage sale a few years back. Didn’t know what I’d use it for, but it worked a lot better than trying to oblong them with a drill bit. It’s now my official gasket hole punch.

 

I loaded and hauled the last load from Springfield back to Columbia. It is a 62 Chevy Belair sport coupe project and ac***ulated parts from that shop were it was up for a restore sadly Rodney lost his life in a accident so many projects have had to be removed from this shop. I only met him when I helped my friends haul their cars to his shop.

Looks good to me, but that's coming from a guy who can't even paint an engine without "flow checks"

 

I’m Got my welding cart painted, made from junk, the tubing was bent did the best I could to get square. I ended welding the grinder hanger bar off kilter thought about cutting off and remounting - naw. I have like $2.00 invested not counting paint and welding consumables maybe $20 total. I have to mount some plywood for the MiG and arc welder to sit on. Sometimes working with junk takes longer. Nothing is square or straight but it’ll work.

Looks fine to me. I bought a commercially available "generalized" cart, and am not real happy with it. I think that once you get beyond a single device(welder, plasma cutter, etc.) you need a custom cart.

Still trashing on the Ranch Wagon, got all the bent up sheet metal painted and replaced and got the car fired up and running, now just doing some maintenance. should be back on the road soon. HRP

 

Finishing up some wiring, check it, then put the headers on and fire it up! Then finish the rest, wait for the rain to stop and maybe test drive it. Has not moved under its own power in over 20 years.

Thank you, I avoided my usual tying to get everything right, not very much straight iron on the cart. I had two broken ratchets I also used some torque to yield head bolts on the hangers. The only thing that bothers me is the grinder hanger running down hill, someday maybe I’ll straighten it ha ha. Hopefully this help keep my garage organized.

No one ratchet was a Walmart Promark from back in the day the other is a ? Junk. I don’t have any Snap On ratchets, just Craftsman and Proto which I wouldn’t use either for something like a hanger. I do have a Snap On dial torque wrench that I love. Although it would look really cool on my cart lol

Finished the 4GC rebuild. Thanks to Moriarity for finding the float level specs!
I hope they’re correct, because I had to tweak them pretty good to get them set. Regardless this thing needed a once over, choke and secondaries were non functional when it was dropped off here , so hopefully the owner is happy.

 

Fillers made for bump stop’s.

Before anyone say’s it, I’m not allowed to raise the bed floor nor put a hump in the bed floor.

I was allowed to do this…

 

Finally pulled the trigger on some floor mats. Too bad all my whites are different…

Watching paint dry, it’s slow at 80 % humidity. Finally got everything done should work good. So I’m done with part one of garage cleanup and organizing.
Oh and don’t make fun of my welds I had an old fart moment I was burning 7018 and had my leads reversed. I thought old ****py rods NO dumb *** should’ve checked the polarity. Well I got one good p*** lol. Good enough, if ya can’t weld good weld a lot.

what rod does a guy use that ISN'T reverse??-only setting i use ......

 

Not sure how the leads got reversed maybe when moved around or when my when my son used, hence I didn’t check until I just couldn’t get the welds to turn out good.

Welding is like anything else I do , don’t do it everyday anymore , got to scratch my head for a moment to realign the waves to think what am I not doing correctly . My Mother is in the hospital , for a few days . I have been mowing at my house on a M***ey tractor . I jump on the bike , short ride to their house to mow on a John Deere , oh boy better sit here a few moments to gather control and operation before going through the barn !

 

I agree Dave. I don’t weld a lot anymore, should’ve took some time and practiced I would’ve found the problem sooner, I didn’t practice because nothing on my welding cart is critical .How the leads got changed who knows? It was 90 degrees and 80% humidity I was sweating something fierce and trying to get done. The welds will likely outlast me, just not pretty. Anyways I scratched one item of my two page list.
